Rattle canned my roadster. Spent the big bucks on the parts, not the paint. Looks OK and it worked. Yes I know the downsides and I don't care. It's mine. If I had the money things would be different. One can per payday. Thats life, and thats how I got it done.

Yep, I painted a door with it to see what the fuss was about, intended to sand it off. It looked so good I just kept going. I know my roadster and my wallet are not ready for high dollar paint yet, (if ever) and there's not much car to strip anyway, so why not?

Its a long way from the krylon we painted my buddys corolla with in college, after a few weeks you'd have powder blue all over your pants if you leaned against it!

  5. That link is for acrylic latex. Is that what you used? I have used the oil based and it turned out great, but latex I'm not sure that will work.

I think I'll do mine that way too. I have house paint on my hood right now, wonder if Rusteoleum will stick to that??:D
I did a custom acrylic lacquer job back in the mid 90's. It was my 1st paint job. I was impressed with myself, look excellent.........for a while, then it started to crack and shrink:eek:

  9. That link is correct. Back then there were 5 or 6 of us that used this with absolutely no issues spraying or no issues with the finished project.

I did both of these with Hardware store paint.

This one is Ace Hardware Implement Paint.

Thin it about 10% with acetone.
    Flows out nice.

Glad to see no one got flamed over using the Rustoleum. As an alternative, I used Valspar's Tractor & Implement paint (bought at Tractor Supply) on my '70 VW Beetle. This was my first paint job, so was looking to play around with less expensive paint. I'm happy with the results, but beware that these enamels need some time to harden. I think it was two months before it really set up.

I am going to repaint the gray area with a Low Gloss Black (Tractor & Implement) in the spring.

I was bored one day and low on cash, so I spent $8 on some paint to see if I could pull this off. I figured since the bug is my "goof off" car, I would go ahead and try the rustoleum...

I used three shades of rattle can rustoleum to make the faux rust. Before I sanded it to give it a dull look, it was actually really smooth and shiny.
