So I finally dragged in my 28 A pick up truck body into the shop about two weeks ago that was sitting behind the shed outdoors for at least 30 years. The goal was to remove the doors (believe it or not they are in decent enough shape to spend time & money on). I started soaking the hinges in PB Blaster and tapping the hinges with a small ball pein hammer every night after my day job. Been doing this routine for about two weeks and tonite when I came home I decided to try to drive one of them out.

I started hitting one of the top ones with a small drift and the same small ball pein and noticed slight movement. More PB Blaster and more tapping & back to driving the drift into the bottom of the pin. It appeared to be moving & when it stopped I did the tapping with the hammer and soaked it some more with the PB. I was encouraged so I got a little bigger drift and my 3 lb. sledge and hit it hard. You could see it moving & it got to a point where I could squeeze a pair of vice grips on it just under the head. Between banging on the bottom of vice grip & turning the pin in the hinge while spraying more PB on it the sucker actually came out. I finally did drive it out from the bottom with the drift pin.

The success made me feel pretty good so I thought let's try to another tonite before I close up and go in and eat dinner with my wife. Well the second one came out real quick, fought a little with the next three and saved the most stubborn for last. All in all I had all six out in about an hour.

I believe the key to this was the preparation. Soak & tap for about two weeks before you even think about getting them out.

I hope some one finds this usefull. This ain't much but it's my contribution back to this great community.

PB Blaster is nectar of the gods. You must be a patient dude to resist the urge to to try right away on those hinges. Good move!

Patience comes from doing it wrong for 20 years and then a light bulb goes off & you start working smart.

My Dad always told me that if you are struggling, you are probably doing something wrong. Step back and look at it again and use your brain to figure out a more effective way.

I take that advice more and more each day.

I love PB Blaster! Works awsome, but a word of caution....I think it is the same thing as mil spec 23699 jet and gas turbine oil. If it is, it can cause severe nervous system damage.... Avoid getting it on your skin!!!!
