:mad::mad::mad::mad::p That ****s. I thought the whole idea was to be like it was back in the day qt a 60's style track. Probably cost twice as much admission, entry, lodging, fuel, etc being 4th of July weekend. I guess my shirt collection will stop at VIII.

Just checked on rooms, $145 a night, real great, stupid 4th of July weekend and near Ceder Point.

I really am concerned that they will change the format on Friday and not let us make runs when every we want to during the day and instead do call ups to the lane and you only get 2 or 3 runs if you are lucky. Norwalk is a very nice track but the 4th of July and it is near Ceder Point it is just a disaster just waiting to happen. I called the Best Western and even with my goverment employee discount that is better then AARP discounts they wanted $139 for Friday and $179 for Saturday night. I only paid $67 a night this year in Thompson. I really like Thompson and how they run it on Friday and Saturday but I just have this bad feeling its going to get really changed up now. I am planning on going and giving it a chance and try not to make to big of a thing out of it.

I rather doubt it will be as loose as Thompson. I spent some of Friday and most of Sunday standing next to the yellow tractor in the burnout area shooting some great pix. I think that will be dougtful at Norwalk. I live 25 minutes from Thompson and it cost me $0 a night lodging. Home cooking too. I wonder what event Norwalk lost 4th of July weekend.

BTW I think we talked at Thompson. I was looking at the straight axle ***y on the other car to see the mounting possibly for my Henry J.

I didn't make it up this year but I did last year. Had it really got that much bigger in one year?

My bet is that there is more to this than size. Lousy weekend to have the event. Cost for participants will grow. It's going to lose much of the nostalgic feel.

Sounds to me like someone sold out.

This past G***er Nationals, the Rebel Reaper was the feature car. I was fortunate enough to spend alot of time with Earnest and Gene Catoe, and we discussed this at lenght.....I put alot of effort in to trying to keep this event at Thompson.....we talked about how the Hamb drags suffered a similar problem with too many participants and that Ryan was going to cap the race at 200 pre-registered hand picked racers next year. This baffled Earnest. At that time I figured change was in the wind....They want this thing to get real big I guess. Thompson ran the event, so I would ***ume that Bader will run the event how he sees fit....I don't know him personally, but I hope he looks for some input from the participants on what made the G***er Reunion the best nostalgia event, period. On a personal note, my wife and kids perform in parades on the 4th weekend, have been for over a decade now, and it includes me driving my panel truck and playing oldies for the girls twirling their batons dressed in poodle skirts. So this is real problem for me....Change can be good, but it is pretty damn hard for us nostalgia buffs.

this ****S!!!!!first of all its 4th of july weekend.second i liked it in june because its early in the season.then rock-in-race is in july{around the 15th.i like thompson because it is layed back and more of a racer-track not a spectator track!also i dont think norwalk would like me having a fire on there ashfalt.i dont understand why this has to be a buisness not a gathering of people who just like to race and have fun.i dont think i will go because i think it is wrong to take it away from thompson just to make more money.i dont race my car for money i just race it to have fun and be with my family and friends!!!i say we try to boycot it and have our race at thompson!!!anyone with me?

Dave Hales e-mailed us about this a couple of days ago. We loved the thompson track and the nostalgia feel there. It's going to be alot longer drive for us and the hotel rates are crazy. We don't know why they always have to mess with a good thing:mad:

  15. That really ****s. I was really considering trying to go next year. At that price for a motel that won't happen at all. Unless I have my camper finished by then but I doubt it.

If there was any way I could make it, it would be the first of June. Cool for me also as I have many places I can stay in the area.

Remember the NHRR moved to Columbus for one year and then moved back to Bowling Green. The same thing could happen here.

THE MOVE ****S! Can I say it any louder?
I've been to every spring event and went to the fall event this year.
Its an hour for me to each track.
The charm of the G***er Madness event is "stepping back in time."
Norwalk is a nice site but more modern and upscale.
They have the Blue suede cruise/Goodguys event we could attend.
    This is a mistake!!!!
Make it a one year mistake only....
Moving Goodguys from dusty Medina to Columbus was a good move but I don't see this as a brilliant idea. That's the only move I can think of that worked out for the better. Heck having Goodguys take over the Suede cruise wasn't so good either!

Jon, bring a tent and bbq & camp out in the pits. You might be a little ripe by Sunday though. We're going but I'm fortunate to be able to use Dad's motor home for the weekend. I do however wish they didn't change the location. Thompson is perfect for this event.

John, Norwalk has showers and that is a big plus, but I wonder how much they are going to raise the gate cost to run, and I wonder how much they are going to change the format. As you know that at Thompson on Friday and Saturday you can make runs all day when ever you want to get into line, what I am wondering are they going to structure it more like a GoodGuys event where you can only run if your group is called and you only get limited runs of 2 to 3 each day. Norwalk is 2 hours closer to home for me and that is nice but I doent think they are going to be able to duplicate what we had at Thompson.

The only problem with the camping in the pits is they paved everything, great if it rains but bad in the heat and not easy putting a tent up on the pavement. Could sleep in the trailer but if its a hot weekend that would be a tuff. I guess I will wait and see what the program is going to be for the weekend.

Jon, I'm with you and agree on all your thoughts. All we can do is hope they don't change it much and it keeps it's past format. I know it will be a few hours longer tow for me which kinda ****s as I'm coming from Jersey. I'll be going and hoping for the best. If the mess it all up we just don't have to go back.

Jon, easy to put up a tent on the pavement, power drill and some drywall screws with big washers work great to secure your tent instead of the stakes.

I dont think they will go for that, there is a camping area on the other side of the track. The other reason I get a room is my dad is getting older and I think it would be alot on him for the weekend. And as you siad it might be way to fast to judge them.

I hope it stays true to the old format. I missed the last 3 at Thompson due to several reasons and was really looking forward to going back in 2010. I only hope Norwalk will be 1/2 as good as Thompson.

Norwalk has great facilities....Showers is the minimum any track needs to offer. ..Thompson was neat.....but the facilities lacked....and the weather on average was pretty bad.
