Found this at a garage sale and I think its a buick but dont know the year? Is it a nailhead. Check out the pictures... Thanks
The last nail heads were in 1966 the distributor was in the back. The new design Buicks had the distributor and oil pump on the front of the engine starting in 1967 i believe. Not a bad engine. The Buick 350 had a good bore stoke ratio and good heads for the times. A 2bbl 350 from 67-70 was in the 260 HP range.
Well the guy ended up just giving it too me. He doesnt know anything about it it came in a camero his buddy bought a few years back. Free is always nice. ****** too. Thanks for the help guys.
Buick 350 had a good bore stoke ratio By "good", you mean small? Stroke is larger than the bore, worst of all the 350/360 engines.
Good score . Looks real nice and clean too ! The trans should be a 350 and I think that is a 1969-1970 something around there , Buick . They were quick engine too ! Does it turn over at all or is it stuck ? RetroJim
Here's what came up in a search of the #'s on the block(1241748) http://www.gmplace.com/engine/buickgmplacebui_350lb_2.html http://www.autoguide.net/apf/pontiac-car_engines/bui_350lb_2.html
my buddy has 350 Buick in a '78 Electra. Doesn't set the world on fire but it's adequate. Hard to beat free!
Buick sold that as a 340 in 66-67 possibly 68, so it's newer than that. They couldn't have been too bad, Jeep used them for a few years too.
They're an ok engine. Easy to confuse with the 455 when doing the junkyard fandango. They come with T-350 trans. Speed equipment is limited to cams, a few intakes and I believe K-B used to make roller rockers for them. If it runs good as is, I'd run it and keep something else in mind for the future. Low volume makes goodies expensive. You can find more info on the Buick V8 board. v8buick.com Best way for quick ID between these and the big block 400-430-455 is to count the rocker cover bolts. Five on the big blocks. Six on the 350 I think, be careful here. One sure way is to look for 430 and 455 cast in 1" high numbers on top of the bellhousing area. I understand the 400 is also marked this way, but haven't seen a BB Buick 400 in person. 455's also have cast in CID numbers upside down, about 3/4" high behind the starter.
Just an FYI for that ONE DAY when you are given a free Nailhead (I'll pray for you), the heads sit straight up and down on the block, not at an angle. But anything that's free is certainly for me.
Buick 350's are as close to bulletproof as you can get, and great torquers to get heavy cars moving. But other than that....
