Beeing a newbie, I'm not sure what kind of response to expect, but I could use some insight . I just came across a cool old mild custom and wonder if anyone out there can direct me to some more info on it. The car is a '55 Chevy hard top. I was told it has been around the Muskogee , Oklahoma area since new and belonged to the brother of some famous local athlete (I think)? Anyway, the car has a small block with finned corvette valve covers, Packard taillights grafted on the rear, a custom grille (possibly also from the Packard) , a sunken antenna on the r/r quarter (it looks like it is just a hole that has an old Buick porthole tucked in it). It looks like it wears dark blue paint and has been dechromed , nosed and decked. I have only seen it briefly, and it's on jackstands but it appears to have been lowered (at least in the rear) . Anybody recognize the car and/or having anymore info (maybe a link to some old pics) on it would be greatly apreciated !
Next time you get a chance try to sanp a pic or two of it. Maybe someone from Moscogee has some idea about it.
Thanks PB, I'm trying to decide if I want to buy the car and restore it or build the gasser I've longed for since birth.
since birth????? okay....... really guy..give us a pic. this is like trying to figure out who farted at a stones concert.
Yes, I was born in 68 and have always loved the nose up draggers . You don't have to be a crusty old fart to apreciate old school junk. Sorry , I don't have a picture yet, I just figured anybody who knew anything might recognize the description . . . as for the smell. . . it must be one of those crusty old farts
before i went the gasser route i would find out for sure the history of the car. if it has any history, even if just locally, it would be a shame to change it. nothing against gassers but there are plenty of other tri-fives around to build. you can't replace history. jerseymike
Worthless without pictures, but it would be a shame and a waste to take an old custom and make it a "gasser", either restore it to it's original build configuration, make it drivable and preserve it as-is, or pass it on to the next guy. Fads come and go, old customs need to be preserved.
A 55 Chevy gasser with custom Packard taillights and grille? I don't think so. Sounds like this car should stay a custom. Get yerself a gutted 55 and build one the way they are ment to be.
Thanks to all for the suggestions. Point taken jersey. Still hoping to find some more info, but the car will remain custom regardless.
i'm still trying to figure out the since birth thing. maybe since a youngster..but since birth is a stretch. as for the smell, trying to find info about a car without pics is useless. a description don't cut it.
