I found these fellas in a blacksmith's supplier's catalogue.Ideal for headlamp mounts and many other uses.
They're actually for finishing off the ends of balusters on staircases.
They're made of cast steel so,no problem with a mig.
I'm going to use a pair on my 'A'.Heat and bend a bit of mild steel bar, weld one on the end then weld to my F1 shock mounts.
They've got a nice 'beehive' shape as well.
Check out your local firms who supply blacksmith's components, you'll be surprised at the bits and pieces you could use.

I did another search for you and came up with this.

Apparently, some of the pictures that were originally on this post have been deleted. There is some good info here anyway.

Here's how I did mine. They're attached to the back of my radiator support. I used some cups from a stock headlight bar that were donated to the cause...

It is important that the material used for headlamp stand be strong enough that it does not vibrate all over the place when running down the road.

Aaaaa... yes. The doubters. If you saw the cross section of those arms you might think twice. They're not round. The problem I have right now is the actual mounting pad isn't substantial enough... yet! The arms themselves are really stiff!

Here is mine. 3/4" round stock and they don't shake bad. And I'm running a banger.

  17. After building some free standing mounts in the past and having a short life on my Bulbs I decided to do these a little different. With them tied together side to side it seems to make the bulbs last longer, I haven't had one go out yet. I also mounted the shocks to the rear of the axle just to keep the front end a little cleaner. Nothing fancy here but they sure work well.

Made mine out of a 5$ swapmeet '32 headlight bar. Cut 'em, spun 'em around, heated 'em and bent 'em. Spent a month polishing them. I can get you a better pic if you need to but this gives you an idea.

Thanks guys, they all look good and doing the job ;)

The parts I used are all 30's & 40's English Bicycle parts , seat stem , handle bar mounts & for the brace ,2x NOS fork legs......(40's or 50's)
These are all good & strong ,to handle the task, had them here ,so thought 'why not' ,those headlights are of a Czech brand that Im told come from a railway jigger thing......;)

On my fenderless roadster , I used wwII german 8mm mauser barrels . I heated them and bent into the shape I wanted them . They do have a 8mm hole if you want hide wires inside. Sorry no pictures.

Some upmarket cars of the late Vintage/early post-Vintage era had their headlights on oval or airfoil-section posts on top of the frame horns. I wonder how one would do that approach on an A, especially as the frame horns are so short. Also, the headlights would have to move forwards to clear the radiator shell.

I like the classic look of big headlights directly over the rails. Anyone run a set-up like that?
