Hey ya'll, I've been thinking about this for a while already.. And I think there's a lot more a****st you who have the same problem, or have already made the decision... I don't know what to do exactly, but my mind is going more and more into the direction of only doing motorcycles and skipping the thought of getting another car... I'll tell ya why... You all know that I built that little Trump last winter. It's the first bike I built "from the ground up", actually from skratch. I also have big plans on re-doing the whole thing this winter and really "finish it". On my trip to Cali I scored a lot more really cool bike parts and my mind went to the bike thing more and more... I even have plans to start another project. Let me tell you why I have these thoughts.. I've always been into cars and bikes. The car thing will never go away, I'm sure of that. I love to work on 'em with my buddies. And I love to learn about cars and shoot photos of 'em. But it's this... I was in sunny Western America for 5 weeks, then I come back here in the rain and think... It doesn't work for an old car here in this climate... Somehow, you can keep bikes much nicer in a bad climate like we have. Rust doesn't crawl in all kinds of un-reachable spots. And since I'm such a nitpicker.... We can't ride 'em anyways in the winter, that's the same for cars and bikes overhere... The weather ****s.. It's just building time then. Then there's space.. This is actually the biggest problem. In my garage I can hardly walk around a decent sized hot rod, pick up or custom... But I can easily store 2 bikes, a bunch of tools, a workbench, and even be able to walk around 'em.. Then there's shipping of parts from the US.. I shipped a lot of parts this time.. it's easy with bike stuff, less heavy and smaller too.. Which means, less $$$$.... And then there's the whole Dutch scene overhere. We don't really have a "hot rod or custom scene" going on here.. it's just a lot of ugly musclecars and a lot of ****s around 'em. But in the bike world, there's a lot more goin' on overhere. Lots more cool people who know what they're talking about. And the whole market for bikeparts and complete bikes lives.. For cl***ic American automobiles, it's almost dead. I just wanted to get this off my mind... maybe you think I'm a whiner.. Maybe you think I have some good points here.. And there's maybe some guys who have the same thoughts that they're dealing with.. I bet there's gonna be a day that I'll own a nice old car again... But I don't think anywhere soon... Lemme know what you think... Maurice
Do both! Gas $$ over there has alway's been High, but you got 'Smoke Easy'z'. And like Mut-lee stated: You can Move here!
Come over to my garage...no cars this winter...only Triumphs and one bsa...oops forgot about the yamaha xs650 and a couple more oddball two wheelers... For me it was bikes for 28 years and then a decade off....It's great to be back building and riding....If cars arent exciting for you, skip em for a while and focus on the bikes...your Triumph is one of my favorites.
Hey man, first, you clearly have the VISION and P***ION for building bikes... your triumph has IT... so at least you are doing something that you love and are good at... Second, I feel a bit the same... I have 2 or 3 projects but the only one that I think about at night when I go to sleep is my new triumph...ever since I built my first I can't stop... So, I feel kinda like I'm selling out... or leaving a friend behind... The way I look at it and what I have to keep telling myself is that you gotta follow your p***ion... building something without the p***ion is just going through the motions... My plan now is to finish my bike and then plan from there.... I am no good at advice and personally don't think anyone listens... we all do what we want... BUT I do like to occ***ionally see that someone is in the same delimna as me... Hope that this helps.... Oh, by the way, thanks for posting the link to your pics from the West Coast on the **** board... You clearly live life like a RULER... next trip come to the east coast and we'll live bikes..... Tim
Sounds like you have things figured out very good, keep us posted with what you are building. Enjoyed seeing pics of your build.
What's so hard to decide? It sounds like you've already weighed the pros against the cons and decided to go with bikes...no problem! You own nobody an apology. I'd prolly do the same if fuel was 7 bucks a gallon here but I promised my wife when we got married, I'd stay away from bikes...it was a condition. I put a few conditions on her too and after 21 years, we still live up to the conditions we both agreed to.... But I never said I wouldn't build a modified! Hell, a modified wil fit in your garage, has 4 wheels but the rest is more like a murdercycle than a car. I'll stick with 4 wheels.....even if they're spoked.
why would you want to fit into a scene???? I dont care what anyone says, there is nothing and I mean nothing cooler than an old rod or kustom. No bike in the world would change my mind.... thats my 2 cents.
What about a bike with a ***** mounted on the seat? Then you would have all the comforts of you shoebox. HaHa "The Cheater way" There is nothing like a Hot Rod. If you want to build another bike, build another bike. If you truly want an old car, make it happen. You'll find a way.
Cali. would be a good choice, but TEXAS sounds a whole lot better!!!! It sounds like you need a change of scenery brotha, come on over to the states..
All jokes aside, I'm in the same boat. For YEARS now I've been working on cars that I want to see finished but by the time I get some where with them, I'm done! I'm more of a builder than a driver I know realize. I see the challange, make it run or whatever, then move it out for something else. I now have 2 Triumphs that are in various states of dismay, but truth be told, I'm happier this way! I have more space, more time working, less time being *****ed at, which will leave me more time to ride. Winters coming, so I can work on the bikes in the house. Which leads me to hang out with the kids more (2 birds, 1 stone. YES!) I love rods and customs and lowriders too, and when the time is right I'll build me something really smooth that I will enjoy for years to come. But currently with the lack of funds and current prices of good parts, I'll just stick to the bikes for now. But thats just my 2 cents on it!

We don't even have a "scene" here... Oh yeah... Another thing... Did I mention that fuel costs 6-7 bucks a gallon out here... How does that **** when your cruizin' yer V8 with all those Strombergs on it around town...

[/ QUOTE ] That too funny Rocky, thats what my wife and I have going on. Now she is like umm, a modified is that safe, but its too late, its happening already.. I still want a bike soooo bad though..But I figure once I start driving my modified I will be more content.
