Just bought a 1946 buick super today. My friend Jon says this is a great forum for the new guy to the car world ( like myself) to the extreme advanced guy. Any way my name is Trav and i have always wanted a hot rod/ rat rod and the 46 buick has the curves that i want to see. I would like to update the frame/ suspension / brakes. So im basically looking for a rolling ch***ie with disk brakes all around that I can drop the 46 body onto. Any sugestions?
Welcome to the HAMB from Maryland. drum brakes are a sweet way to go and you already have them. If you look again, you might find that basic refurbishment of a few systems and you are on the way to fun.
Trav, I'm just a newbie here m'se'f but I've discovered that showing enthusiasm for rat rods is like saying something ugly about a guy's mother, or suggesting his brother is a Democrat, or something (you get the idea). I'd suggest using the search function and find out what people have said about rat rods. It's not very pretty. Alas. Anyhoo, I'm in the late-40's GM crowd myself, and a lobstah enthusiast, for that matter, so see ya around, eh? wow there's getting to be quite a few of us here from vacationland don't worry about the rat rod thing it seems like lots of people come here throwing the term out but not actually talking about a rusty cobbled together deathtrap. I know it's wierd to worry about political correctness when you're talking cars, but... just don't use the "r" word.
Welcome . I would love to see pics of your car. Does it have a frame? If so there are many options to upgrade that are easier than a frame swap.
