Wait till you see ET's new adds in the Journal 15"4 1/2 or maybe they were 4"s in Aluminum peaked, and 16" rears

  5. $400 clam$ - a bit rich for me when a 15x5" TTO goes for $169 each?? Besides i dont want a round spoked wheel hehe

these are the old style round spoke 15x4 5 spokes. they are a dead copy of the vintage g***er wheels .

  7. Can't believe he doesn't think he can sell 50 pair. They should have tooled them up 20 years ago, they would be well over a thousand pairs already! We will soon be seeing skinny 5 spokes everywhere!

I have 3 pairs of originals. At that price I may just keep them.

I sold a pair about 7 years ago for $650, and a full set (15x4 fronts/15x8 rears) a couple years ago for $1400 and felt lucky to get that. I don't think you could easily wring $1600 out of a pair of fronts.

RAY said that the aluminum wheels will be cheaper. the magnesium wheels take a special foundry to poor. something about epa and volitility of molten mag.aluminum wheels can be poored in alot more foundrys

I spoke to Vintage Engineering about the mag 15x4 5-spokes earlier this year after I saw the blurb in the Rodder's Journal. This was several months ago, and he only had a couple pairs left then. I couldn't believe it, because I had just seen the ad. Then he said he had cast them a couple of years ago, and he was disappointed it took so long to move them. I thought to my self, what do you expect when you don't advertise them. If he did advertise, it sure wasn't in any of the mainstream rodding publications, which is market where this type of wheel would be appreciated. He also quoted me $800 or $900 a piece, and said if he ran any more, they would probably cost a little more, because the price of magnesium had gone up. I had seen nice original 15x4 Torq Thrusts going on E-bay for $2000.00 a pair, when the mag wheel market peaked a year or two ago. I p***ed on the Vintage Eng wheels, and I'm glad I did, because ET Wheels is supposed to release a perfect replica in aluminum in January. Magnesium is cool, but I'd rather have aluminum anyway, just because of the upkeep. Here's a pic of the new ET's. I for one can't wait till they're ready.

some advertising would probably have sold them pretty quick....seems like he was running them on ebay from time to time. american racing really dropped the ball on this one. i remember a buddy and i , talked to steve zeber at louisville about doing some....and that was back in 98 or 99 ....he said there wasn't a market for them. and besides , those new tt2's were selling like hot cakes. if those et's look half as good as the ones in the pic ...they will sell the hell out of them , as long as it doesn't take 28 weeks or so , to get a pair.........

Speaking of wheel prices, I'm looking at my copy of American Racing Equipment's January 1964 Magnesium Wheels and accessories catalog. Yes, they had a separate catalog just for the magnesium stuff. At that time they made the magnesium Torq-thrust in 4X15, 6X15 and 10X15. Maximum rated speed for them was 185mph (with racing tires)! 4X15's sold for $56.00 plus $3.36 federal excise tax! For another $22 they would polish them for you! 10 spoke spindle mounts were about the same price. The 5 spoke Torqu-Thrust spindle mounts are not in this catalog yet. They are however in my catalog dated January 1, 1968. My January 1969 catalog shows the new 200S wheel. Says it's the strongest one piece aluminum wheel ever made, capable of safe running up to 200 mph!
On the back cover of the 1964 catalog is a picture of stacks of shiny new wheels ready to be boxed and shipped! Cool!

Let me know if you have any wheel questions that might be answered by checking these wheel catalogs.

They are made in China, but so are American's these days. I have the 16x8 version on the back of my sedan and they seem ok.

Yeah, I know. I was replying to Rat bastad who specifically said he didn't want round spokes.
