I have 2 sets of bumpers for my car and I wanted to make a california bumper for it. Is there any suggestions on what I could do. The chrome shop Down the road said its a pain in the ***. I have 5 kids I know what a pain in the *** is LOL!!!!!! Anyways, I have access to a welder, and I heard to stay away from bumperboyz. I did call them and they want 630.00 for a front one I was hopeing I could weld my own and have it chromed for 400.00. If anyone has done this help a brotha out.. LOL!!!;)

Grind the seams, bolt them together and get to welding. Just don't grind the welds. Let the chrome shop do that. Make sure the welds don't have any pinholes or trash in them.

It is a pain in the ***. A major one.

Even if you do a great job with your welding, which you need to, if it's being chromed....most chrome shops will find a way to find any pinholes in your welding, and not try to fix them.
Whenever I weld up something I want chromed, I send it to one of my "special" chrome platers, the more expensive ones, who will repair any problems on the weld seam. NOT a job for a regular plater!
You're not going to get much of a job for 400$. Either don't weld it, or spend the money to get it plated at a place that can do it right!

I didnt know about the pin holes and leaving the grinding to the platers. I was told it was 400 to have the bumpers I have re-chromed. That is strip and chrome I guess. I am sure it will be more if they would have to do the grinding.Maybe bumper boyz aint sounding so bad after all:confused:.........

If you are painting them then it's worth the trouble. Otherwise buy 'em new. By the time you send yours to the platers after making them one piece it will be waaaaaaaaay more expensive.

    Great advice.

That $400 price will not include any repairs to welding. That would be strip/sand/polish/plate. Making weld lines undetectable once plated can double that price depending on how nice you want it and how much fixing the welds need. Our base price would be a little more than that quote, probably about $440.
