So I did a compression check on my 54 235 engine today and they were all between 52 and 56.

is it normal for them to read that low?

this is a brand new motor.

    any one have any ideas?

    thanks!

Sounds a bit low! but did you run the engine first and get it warmed up? does your gage read PSI? is the cam timing right? does the starter work properly or crank it real slow?

And you DID block the throttle wide open after warming it up right?

you may try putting some engine oil into the cylinders, with a fresh engine, it could have washed the cylinder walls with fuel when you cranked it

    he means wide open throttle.

Just sounds like you didn't crank it over enough times. Should be between 120-150.
