anyone have pics, resources, links to threads, etc about 1927 ford roadster sub-rails?? i'm going to need to replace what was cut out of my body and i need some help on how to go about doing that.. my cowl still has the subs in it, but its from a different car. i'm pretty sure this body one was channeled at some point, but i"m going to run it hi-boy on an A frame. thanks.
I've just started doing this, piecing together a T Roadster I started with one rusty roadster one rusty touring front half one roadster middle section a second rusty turtle deck and some rusty hacked up subrail pieces it's not much to look at yet but it's starting to take shape I'll see if I can post a picture or two.. are you looking for specific information?
Add me to that list as my son and I have the crusty formerly channeled front half of a 27 touring that needs the sub structure replaced if we ever get to it. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
i guess what i'm looking for is the construction of the subrails... what do they look like, how is everything attached, how many pieces etc...
Are you wanting to go back stock with the subrails? On my coupe I cut them completely out and built a whole new set of inner subframe rails, then using 1/2" square tubing I made my floor skeleton and then skinned it!
Pm Nobodys Hero for pics, he help you out. He is building a sick little 27 roadster on 32 rails. But his body has it's original floors in it still, he will have no problem helping out or sharing pics.
I seem to be having technical difficulties... using Villagephotos and just installed a new Norton antivirus program... edit: changed to thumbnails loaded direct to HAMB..
I have a '27 floor, original with its "patina", complete from firewall to the rear of the seat riser. I'll try to get out later today or tomorrow and get some pics.
made of two side rails, three cross pieces and the rear connecter rail, sides follow the body and are partialy exposed here's a couple more shots now sitting on an A frame with subrails welded and panels loosely bolted together still need to swap out the bad turtle quarter and rear panel here
Looks good. I've always liked these little roadsters and it's good to see someone else start out with one in similar condition. Now I want to drag mine out and start working!
Here is the floor that I have, I did the pictures in sepia tone not for the artistic value, but because it gave a better contrast in the remaining light I had tonight
Let me know if your talking about the subrails that are in the cowl section of the body. I have a pair that were removed intact and I can dig them out tomarrow and post pictures of them. Let me know if that is what your looking for. JW
Hey, is there suppose to be any wood in the subrails? (sorry, I can't really think of a better way to ask that question.)
From what I have I would say no. There aren't any holes for nails or anything to indicate that there was ever wood in them. I got a whole body in pieces from an old timer, he showed me how the pieces went together, where the wood in the floor was and around the back window, but he told me there wasn't much wood in the '26-'27 T's.
Mine has the remnants of a piece of wood that has a hole that aligns with the large hole that is centered in the wheelwell area of the subrails. I'll put up a pic in a bit.
I just made new rear sub rails from 3 x 1 x 0.065" rectangular tubing. here are the dimensions I used. The 27.5 dimension is futher forward than stock to allow for the frame Z. I raised the rails to channel the body 1 " over the A frame see last picture for stance.
