Lotsa folks like to bash ebay, but I've had great luck finding, and selling, stuff. That all came to a screeching halt recently with the purchase, well, the PAYMENT, for a set of Auburn speedster rear fenders I bought for my Diamond T pickup project.

Paid, waited, never got 'em. Seller then dissapeared from ebay, account closed. I had paypal'd payment, and emailed the address my payment went to. Guess what? DIFFERENT GUY, who is another ebay seller, listing f'glass Auburn, Anglia, and unusual old car stuff in Guasti, CA.

I contacted that guy, long story, disputed paypal payments, lawsuits, my fenders are done, they'll be shipped ASAP, please withdraw the paypal dispute, blah blah blah, which I foolishly did.

Now, almost two weeks later, no fenders, no reply to emails. I can't reopen a dispute, only one per item. So, I called ebays resolution center, and explained the whole transaction. No problem, money refunded, they're looking into the account of this joker. I've also contacted a guy who builds 41-46 Chev pickup fenders, which may also work for me, so I hope this all has a happy ending.

Moral of the story; Ebay is still a great place to find, and sell, oddball stuff. Pay with paypal, keep records, emails, be presistant, and don't buy stuff from "studiocitycowboy"!

    Brian,

I'm sure that now that his name is out "studiocitycowboy", the power of HAMB will have some effect on his sales!!:D

i got burned by studio city cowboy a couple of years ago..it wasn't much,so after a few e-mails i let it drop.that guy has bought and sold thousands of things on e-bay....a lot of high end parts in the past too

  5. The only trouble I've ever had was purchasing some OT stuff from China... go figure.

  6. Never drop a dispute should it be with Paypal or in court until you have your stuff in hand. Claims can always be dropped at the last second. Like court, once dropped you can't reopen the case. Glad it worked out for you.

Yeah, it's high end stuff. Over 6000 items sold, and, feedback is OK. He makes Auburn speedster bodies, fenders, Anglia bodies, etc, and a variety of other 'glass things. Supposedly, for lots of other venders who also sell on ebay. It strikes me as add that a business that big would let something like this happen. We'll see how this all shakes out. It's the lack of communication (untill a paypal account and HIS money is at stake) that irks me the most. I wanted the fenders, but I don't have to have them. I don't like to make trouble, but I also don't like to be told stories and taken advantage of.

I got burned the same way a few years back. Never got what I paid for, disputed, filed a case.... seller apologized, asked me to withdraw the dispute as the product was "in the mail". Never did get it...

that's scary to find the money sent and then the seller dissappears !!

here's something slightly different, I had a couple bad situations on ebay, but my recent issue is the chrome oil pan and p/u I bought from a guy on another manufacturer specific site, paypal funds sent to him, then a bit of a drag on shipping but said he was in a car accident, ok, possible, says he'll ship out asap, we were headed down to the US fro some shopping and there is a place just over the border that accepts parcels to save Canadians brokerage, didnt make it there in time so he says he'll bite the bullet and mail it at his expense.....only his usps tracking # show it entering Canada last week mid week and then delievred last friday......but I ain;t got no new pan, no slip in the po box either, no return email as of yet.....

hope you get your fenders and they do the trick , sorry for the temporary 'jacking' of the thread.

Another StudioCityCowboy victim here as well. Bought a '36 International P/U cab and grill shell from that tool 3 or 4 years ago. I overnighted a cashier's check to him so he would ship the cab before HE went on vacation. As soon as he got the check he claimed it was raining and his men couldn't put the cab on a pallet for shipping. Said he would get to it when he returned from Hawaii. Finally got back and after many heated emails he shipped the cab. When it got to me, the top of the cab had been bashed in! I called him out about it and told him what I thought of his business practices. About a week later I started getting a TON of email spam from websites I had never visited. I started tracking down how the websites got my email and they all came from an IP address in the same area of SoCal the he lives.

    Beware of this asshole...

So far I've had only one issue on E bay. Filed a dispute and the seller reacted quickly to resolve it, He kept wanting me to drop the dispute but i didn't till i had the part in hand.

Bought a thee piece Hallock style windshield from some woman in Cal. After a long unbelievable story about her troubles, including the mean old judges name, I'm still waiting. Pay pal is ridiculous also, will never use them again. And if it doesn't come in a week, I'm gonna call the judge.

"studiocitycowboy" bought something from me about a year ago and sent me a postal money order. I have a firm policy I don't ship until the MO is in the bank. So when I took it to my bank, they literally laughed at me, and told me it was counterfeit. But both sides looked really freakin' good to me. So I took the MO to the post office to show it to them. Then they wanted to make it a federal case as it's considered their property and it's a federal crime. I emailed the buyer, and he denied, denied, denied.......until I told him the post office was now involved and he quit responding to me. So then I called ebay resolution center and went from there, after 4 months ebay told me to let it drop due to the fact the Fed's were on the case, and I still had my item. I had 2 G-men come to my house to get all the paperwork and email correspondance, made my own statement, and that's the last I've heard of it. But I now avoid him like the plague...........

I buy on E-Pay all the time.
I use Paypal but thru my American Express Card, any shady dealings I just report it to AmEx and they jump on it and pull my funds back to my account right away and go after the slime ball, no problems.

any site with that many members is going to have some shady people. it seem like they do what they can to keep it as safe as possible. i have been buying on there for years. i have found things on there i may have never found otherwise. and with work slowing down, it has helped me make a couple house payments, by selling off a few things.

My Amex card is my payment method through PayPal and I had some guy in GA jerk me around on a $3k engine purchase. Amex credit me back the purchase price immediately and went and kicked his butt. I think they sent the Feds after him.

Moral of story: by all means use PayPal but link it through a credit card so that the credit card company does all the legwork. PayPal's resolution service is not really worth that much and you wait ages for satisfaction - if at all, and sometimes you get no satisfaction through PayPal, even if you are in the right and can prove it..

LOL, that's funny, in a perverted way, because "...it's raining here..." is the EXACT reason I was given almost 2 weeks ago for the fenders not being shipped then! I just got a FRANTIC phone call from the guy I originally purchased them from, now the story is they're locked in a storage building while he is away for work towards his masters degree, if I don't drop this he won't get his degree, why am I doing this to him, his buddy, "studiocitycowboy" will lose his business, it's all my fault, he tried to email me (right...) etc. etc. etc. It's almost worth the 550 just to have this guy squirm a little. No word yet from the cowboy...who's got my money...at least you got your stuff, damaged or not and I haven't gotten anything.

I like how it's all MY fault the guy might not get his degree...

I got my credit card comprimised 2 times paying for items on ebayp-pal,so now I'm cutoff from buying but they are not at fault

  22. I was "almost" a Studiocitycowboy victim....

The MO he sent looked "odd", I communicated that to him via email, he denied, denied, denied... I took copies, sent him back the fake MO via registered mail. Emailed him and told him the merc parts weren't for sale to him EVER. He called me a bunch of names, threatened to call his attorney.... I replied "make your play COWBOY" and then he quietly crawled back under his rock.

all of my pay pal is done through my visa, so still shouldn't have any issues, but, like, I understand shit happens, life is busy, I look after our two kids 1 & 3 ( almost 4 ) and christ sometimes I have to write myself a note to remember take a leak, but it's been a month sinceI paid still no part, I think I'll wait a week and try another email or two and then file a dispute, at least I can try for the refund and start looking for another pan.

I looked at the site he and I are on, no issues with him I thought, logged into any post with his username, just questions and answers , no bitching

I bought a vintage trim & handle catalog off studiocitycowboy and when it showed up......xerox copies. It was only a couple bucks and still allowed me to get the info I needed, so I just left negative feedback. Had I known it was a deeper issue I'd have protested thru ebay.

    He's a scamming fucktard.

In 6 years and 3 builds I've only been burned once on a lame harddrive bought on the bay.
But I have been tweeked pretty good by 6 guys on HAMB.
The first three all demanded money orders. Money orders sent- nothing received- I'll never use a money order again. If they dont take Paypal, I wont buy from them, period.

The guys who took paypal have tried to scam too but at least you can put in a claim to protect yourself.
One guy refuse to ship my item after I paid for shipping because he didnt like the fact he had to pay 3% to paypal, then refused to refund me. I had to put in a claim and it took 5 weeks to get my money back.

Another guy sold the item, took my paypal money and then sent an email asking for an additional payment of $40.00 more above what I paid him for shipping.

The third guy tried to scam me for $55.00 saying he was hit with a bill for tax shipping the item to me in Canada, yet he had no evidence of it to back up his story.

I've got my money back from Paypal everytime but it goes to show, there's fucksticks everywhere like pediphiles in playgrounds.

This "studiocitycowboy" sound's like a real asshole,...given his track record with screwing over the amount of people on this site alone makes me wonder why no one has confronted this guy in person.

Also, given his line of products he "sells", I am glad he isn't a H.A.M.B. er.
