Yet, I counted 43 bikes that ARE bobbers. Awesome ones at that... [IMG]

My point is that this term is becoming way overused..just because a bike has stock rake does not make it a bobber.

I only saw about 10 bobbers, and then a lot of choppers that didn't happen to have long front ends. And a real nice bultaco shorttracker.

Possible incorrect depiction of bobbers ....not very irritating.....but....uneeded criticism (opinions) of a good bike site that is free for all to enjoy....very irritating. Here's an idea....build a bobber that you feel is correct, or build a website that is better than bobbertown, or better yet, just keep needless negative comments to yourself.

Love the site Tony. You didn't do all THAT work postin' drunk. [IMG] [IMG] Really nice variety of cool bikes.

And yeah, Dave Billar is a genuinely nice guy. And in case you boys don't know, his wife is a very hot gothabilly bettie and talented drummer. I had no idea that he was into bikes like that though.

Even more irritating...grumpy old men who feel the need to tell everyone what to do (think) i was simply asking tony how he thought that was a bobber..then your fat ass chimed in and turned it into this. if your gonna call a place bobbertown then have friggin bobbers not choppers with stock rake and streetfighters. tony i dig your site it wasn't an attack on you just wanted to hear your opinion of that bike. goddamn man lighten up..you can retort all you want i'm not gonna turn this into another holier than thou fest.

  18. First, thanks to all of you guys for the compliments. Evilfordcoupe, it means a lot coming from you. The 1/4 Scorcher gets me so stoked every time I look at it.

Now my two cents for those w/ comments (which are always welcome, positive or negative).

I have no intention of featuring solely bobbers and sure as shit didn't state that anywhere. There are'frisco chops, bobbers, and homogolations on my site. The site is about bikes that I think are cool. I'm not going to feature billet barges and politely decline when people send me pic.'s of these types of scoots, but I'll feature what I please.

The name of the site is catchy. If you happen to be turned off by the name I've chosen and the bikes I feature, look elsewhere.

The Confederate doesn't fit the general feel of the site...but I can do things like that every now and then. It's my site and I'd own that bike yesterday if I had the money. And I truly feel it's a modern day bobber, as I stated.

The holier than thou, "this isn't a bobber, that isn't a bobber, stock rake, blah, blah, blah" shit? Lame man. Lame. I could give you a thirty five minute discertation on what a real bobber is, show you unrestored versions sitting in oldtimers garages, and introduce you to guys who were there at the beginning. It's a cliche', but if you've got to say stuff like that, "you don't get it."

Hellspawn...It's no different than this...If Tony invited you to his shop for a free barbecue and burgers....you show up and hold the burger up in front of everyone and say "How can you consider this a burger?"....I see it as you "Chiming in" with negative, not constructive criticism...(and for the record, at 5'10" and 175 pounds my ass isn't all that big) [IMG]....The site is great and there's no need for Tony to defend the bikes he features.

Putting up a website is not inviting people to a BBQ. Putting up a website is distributing information (like a newspaper), and if it's wrong it's distributing misinformation (like your government--ok, or a newspaper). I'd much rather have it corrected than worry about warm fuzzies. Tony has pictures of nice bikes on his site, but the information isn't so accurate so it's good when it's corrected. It may not be important what people call an individual bike, but it is important to know what words mean. They're an important part of the history of these bikes. A bobber does not mean "like a chopper, but short", but right now this is what most newbies seem to think.

I'm pretty sure Tony wasn't trying to educate brain surgeons with his website. I'd be willing to bet his intent was to entertain people...just like entertaining with a barbecue..both are giving time and money so others can enjoy something....And I'm sure more people than me are entertained with what he has done. I don't give a shit what you guys think, it's just plain rude...bad manners, to question his choice of bikes, and in this day and age, you will never admit you are wrong....but you are....It's been said before, this place is like a garage...and in the bike garages I've been around all my life, you wouldnt risk walking in and criticizing someones choice of ANYTHING without being asked first for your thoughts on your perceived correctness..read the title of his post, he wasn't looking for opinions, just letting people know he has been working and spending money to entertain you....I still see your post as a slam... an undeserved slam....and thinly disguised at that.

Hatch - In case you haven't already noticed i don't care what you think.

Tony - Kudos on a well put together site. Questioning your choice of bikes wasn't meant as a flame or a slam or whatever you wanna call it. I was simply pointing out that i think the word bobber as well as several other terms are becoming loosely used. If your gonna name a site bobbertown then keep it at that...put up another site for showcasing other types of bikes. I wouldn't go to joeblowsworldoftractorpulling.com to find pics of a roadster. The post wasn't worded as a slam unfortunately some people feel the need to mother everyone and it got blown out of wack.

i like the variety, and not one of those bikes would i be ashamed of riding.
labels are gay, pointing out when you think someone has mislabeled something, well that is just fucking stupid.
if i said" hey look at that hot rod", and you said "well thats not really a hot rod its more of a kustom."loud and proud so everyone could hear.kinda like you just did to tony
then i'd probally hit you in the fucking mouth.
    but thats just me

  29. Again, I never said anything about posting solely bobbers. The name is catchy and I like it. I'll continue doing things exactly as I have.

I'm thick skinned and fully expected things like this to happen every now and then. Thanks to everyone for their input, kind words, etc.

A little about the history of the site, for those of you who care: Chopper Dave has a cool site I really like. I communicate a little w/ Dave and told him that I wished he'd update more often. He said he just doesn't have time and I respected him for his honesty. I figured I could do something similar and I could squeek out the time to update semi-regularly. I do. That's it.

A little about me: I grew up racing enduro, have had a bunch of street bikes, and got turned on to Harleys a couple years ago. Bought a '63 Pan and have been making it my own ever since. Building a pretty wild Ironhead as we speak too. Lots of experience w/ cars. Did a drag car w/ my pops, restored a couple Vettes, and had a pretty bitchen 56 Vic. mild kustom.

God, I feel so, so exposed! Hah! Let's all hug and fuck now [IMG]
