pinion angle

    hey there i was hoping that someone would be able to help me out. i am trying to mount the rear end into my model a frame and i was wondering what pinion angle i should set it at. i am running a 59 352 fe motor and a 9 inch. should i set it at 0 for mock up or go 1 or 2 up or down?

    go down....BUT...whats holding the rear end in the car? A model spring?

    Parallel with the crankshaft. If you don't have the engine/trans mounted yet, make sure you build some adjustment into your rear end

    I've heard you want more angle with a leaf spring setup as opposed to 4 link and coil overs. What are you running?

    My 51 F-1 has leaf springs. My '62 Monterey has a triangulated 4 link. The pinion angle should always be the same as the transmission output shaft. This means that the U-Joints will be operating at the same angle, and you won't have a larger load on one or the other. Now drag cars and driveshafts with a center support bearing are a little bit different story.

    Are you talking about welding the spring perches on the rear axle housing to set the pinion at that angle? If so, I would set it as close to zero degrees as possible. If the overall driveline angle comes out too close to zero, you can always shim the transmission mount to get to the minimum of about 1.5 degrees at each u-joint.

    I am running a triangulated 4 link that i got from tci, and i am trying to weld the the brackets onto the rear end. and the motor and trans in not in the car, i have not got to that point yet be i hope to by the end of next month.
