Hello, Back in the mid 70's I crewed on a top alcohol car based out of Winnipeg called the Sodbuster owned by Don Sherwin. The car originally was built for Jerry Ruth and was the 4th car to 5 seconds. It was a 1971 Don Long rear engine chassis. Don bought the car in 74 and sold it in 77. I tracked down the owner who bought the car from Don in 77and found the car chassis doesn't exist any longer. Although he has a line on the body panels for the car when we ran it. I would like to track down that year and style of Don Long chassis and rebuild the car as a piece of Manitoba racing history. Anyone have a clue or lead on this year of top fuel chassis made by Don Long? I have tried to find drag classifieds but National Dragster doesn't seem to have classifieds anymore. And other searches have turned up nothing. Any help is appreciated.
Yes, that is the car. Dave Fedorich bought the car in 77. He rear halfed the car and then front half it at a later date as well as updated the roll cage. Dave sold the car to a sand dragger in Florida in the 80's. From there who knows where it went. It would be different now because of the work done to it. That's why I am looking to find another Don Long chassis to match the original body. Hopefully it is still in Winnipeg. I should have posted a pic as I have quite a few from Bison Dragways.
Here is a pic of the car when Jerry Ruth owned it. The car was the same configuration with the Sodbuster paint when we ran it. We did not run the side air foils and the rear wing was lowered.
Gary Wager at garywager@hotmail.com has an early RED . I was there when he had it certified and the guy said it looked like an old Woody G match race chassis. Whatever that means. The car was last seviced at Mattews Machine in Kingston . It was the first ever Jegs sponsored car in Canada when it was compaigned by Gary Shetler. The last rework was to move a brace bar to accomodate a Dodge starter as Gary W ran an experimental 426 wedge i made for him from a 400BB Dodge. It was certified three years back and the certifier told us it was a good strong solid car. He had Gary update one crossbar and that has been done. Gary has gone back to Door slammer racing which is what he is very good at and the car with its newly made body sits in the shop without and engine. I know he would sell it. He is a long haul trucker trucking Canada USA and as you can guess he has more free time right now than he would like. Email him if you like. You might be able to almost steal it. He has photos I am sure. Car was also rebuilt in the drivers ara for a more normal size North American redneck driver. (#200 plus) That was all done before certification so it is good on its current tag. Don
