I know this is WAAAAAAAYYYYY off topic, but with all the posts about people p***ing, surgeries, scary accidents and deceases, I thought we could use a more positive life experience post.

This Friday, October 23rd 2009, my family and I have an appointment in family court, doesn't sound good so far .

Let me try to explain, about 2 years ago my wife and I decided we missed something in our lives, kids, we had a great life, good jobs, great house, lot's of hobbies, space, time and more money then we knew what to do with, but no future or legacy to leave behind and lot's of love to give. We first discussed having some kids of our own, but decided we were too old to start and neither one of use likes babies (diapers and noise a****st other inconveniences) so we looked into adoption. We decided that a domestic adoption, kids from foster care, born and raised in America was the right approach for us. It took us the better part of a year to get through all the paperwork to be approved to adopt, international adoptions are often faster then local ones (made in China is faster, go figure). We received our final approval July 2008, but didn't have a specific kid or kids in mind, so we started looking.

Initially we decided we wanted to adopt two kids, didn't care about race, ethnicity, gender and were flexible on age, so we thought it would go fast.. Well it took us until late April 2009 to find the right kids for us, as soon as we saw their picture online we decided they were the ones for us.. One little snag, there were 4 of them, all siblings, 2 boys, 2 girls. Exactly one month after we saw the first picture we picked them up from foster care and brought them home; Jessica 17, Jason 16, Sam 8 and Grace 7. The ride has been a great one so far, we don't always feel in control and there have been some surprises, but overall we are very very very very happy with the decision we have made and we are a real family in every sense of the word.

Friday we are going to see the judge to make the adoption final, the kids names will be changed to ours, and the whole process is finally over, just over 2 years after we attended our first information session.

Anyone who is interested in adding some kids to their family and is considering adoption, please do us all a favor "Buy American" (or where ever you live). Just in Texas alone there are over 4,000 kids awaiting a forever family (adoption) and all of us have some skills to teach them and help make the hot rod hobby live on.

I've attached some pics of my kids.. I'm so happy with them and all of them helping on the hot rod we are building together is a fathers dream come true.

Cool story. I have a good freind in Dallas that has adopted 2 children from Guatamala and 3 from Houston ( drug addicted mother, no father, etc. ) I am sure those kids appreciate you and your wifes kindness and the love you have shown them. Good Luck with the Hot Rod. Do you need a 40 year old ( I need some help with my car)

Thanks, but no thanks, I've got 4 now, don't need to trade for another. (happy you corrected later)

Actually Grace, my 7 yo GIRL is the one most into the hotrod, especially after I let her weld some stuff, she wants to go to work every day right after she comes home from school.

A truly great thing for all concerned. Walk forward in measured steps..... DAD. I think one of these days you may look back and not remember what life was like without them.

You're good people. Damn proud of you for doing that contribution. It is a big undertaking on just one under roof let alone 4. You and the wife are special folks. (the good kind of special :) lol. )

Good luck to y'all and as fellow Texan Billy Joe Shaver from Beautiful Downtown Corisicana sings in Live Forever...

    "you fathers and you mothers
    be good to one another
please try to raise your children right
don't let the darkness take em
    don't make em feel forsaken
just lead em safely to the light..."

    Good on ya!

Good for you. As far as being off topic I don't think any one will say a Neg thing about it. Besides you do have some project pics in there.

The older children needing adoption and loving caring parents are so many and you have taken on a great responsibility and a great joy.

I used to be a caseworker for CPS in Texas, and saw how many older children went unadopted. Everyone wants an infant, so older kids are rarely adopted. Thanks for helping out some kids that needed a family.
