So today looked to be one of the last warm days here in Illinois, so I played hooky. Spent the day trying to unearth my 54 Chevy Sedan Delivery. I managed to cut back the overgrowth and at least dig out the front end and get some wheels on it.

This thing is a long term project, even for me. Which means it's gonna sit for at least a few more years. I'll have to admit, it's a big project and it may be more than I can handle. I've always loved these deliveries, so I'm gonna have to think about it for awhile. That is, unless somebody else needs it more than me.

Here's some of the pics. Any good words?

If your not going to start on it, get it off the ground and cover it up. At least save someone a little work later. :D

    What are you waiting for.

  7. I am not going to talk you out of this delivery. I bet you do not get any sleep tonight, while your brain plays around with what the next move is going to be with this vehicle. Have a nice sleepless night!

Sale it and get something with a little less work.Or maybe a trade. If your gonna keep it I would try to protect it from the weather. There's nothing wrong with a slow build once you start things will start to roll.

  12. If you've always had a thing for these deliveries, there you go. And, if you have the patience for a long term project, well there you go. I'm kind of in the same boat myself, going to look at a 42 tudor tomorrow. It will probably be long term too, but damn I love 'em. That means I'll have to sell my beater, oh well. I say dive in and build. Me thinks you got some good help around there too.:)

  13. Sure it's alot of work but that would be pretty cool. Sedan delivery's are tough to find and badass, go for it man!

Most all of us have let go of cars that we regret not keeping. I know I could list a bunch of 'em.

But very top of the list is my '54 sedan delivery. They are so freakin' cool!

    Good luck with your build.:D

Thanks guys. I do have some pretty good help nearby :D and it would be a great father son project. The only reason I hedge is that I have no shortage of projects and no surplus in funds. Ain't that the way it always goes?

Still, I like it a lot. My original idea was to ultimately have a nice long haul ride that my wife and I could travel in. I'm thinking BobK style here. Something cool and comfy but still traditional. Probably keep the sixer but mate a 5-speed to it. We both like rowing the gears. She'd need to have some creature comforts like heat, a stereo and maybe AC. But I can accommodate. It's going to take some thought and planning. So we'll just get her stable for now and concentrate on the other projects first...... if I can.

My daughter accuses me of having car guy A.D.D.

He's already laying claim to the little red C10. Figure he can put his sickle in the back. Oh man, what have I done?

Thank God he's got a better head on his shoulders than I did at his age.

my first car was almost a 53 or 4 sedan delivery... but it would not start when we went down to look at it and I was 16 and didn't know squat. deliveries are cool. I say metallic blue, stock in front raised in the back. Cragars or slots. chrome lakewood traction bars... with a blue crushed velvet diamond tuck interior. a wooden barrel cut up and made into a bar, mirrors with those gold streaks in them on the ceiling. couple gold lamps with bulbs that look like candles.and the best part? "Stabbin Cabin" painted on the side and the "Keep on Truckin" guy on the rear door.oh... wait. thought it was 1976. cancel that.

If you aren't planning on working on for a while and you're not moving it inside, I would probably turn it and let the new proud owner fix it. Then you can save your money and buy something in better shape to work on.

    YMMV

Around here it would be rusted beyond repair in about 3 years being parked in grass like that! Grass causes condensation to form on the underside and inside of the lower panels and also gives off oxygen which combines with the dampness to promote oxidation...RUST.
    So long panel!!!!

Great car to do...look after it as best you can.
In a few years you'll be glad you did!!! :D
