Hey Guys. If you saw my intro thread you know I have very little idea on what I'm doing in terms of what I need to buy, what I need to build, and how much this should all cost. I'm trying to get a feel for how much I should be spending, and was wondering if you guys could help me out. I found this up on Craigslist the other day, and wanted to know what you guys think: http://providence.craigslist.org/cto/1432456037.html Good price, Mediocre price, or overpriced? Thanks! Ant
Mediocre price, also depending on skills needed to put together this is just mocked up, lots left to do.
dont know how the availibility is in your area..but i wouldnt spend 5G's on that. Ive seen more complete A's that run and drive for that kinda coin.. I think you are looking at someones problem child..and to step into it for 5 big ones, is a bit steep. you need to go there and look at the quality of work..or lack there of. I think you have 3 grand worth of "stuff" there..that may or maynot be even put together right.,, and thats giving the owner the benifit of doubt..go lower..much lower
Is that a coffee can being used as a air cleaner riser? This thread is going to be shut down if not put in the craigslist section.
Thanks for the feedback guys! This kinda gives me a good idea of what I should/shouldn't be spending. Lowcab--Do ya know how i move this thread to the right place? thanks
Here's one for you, might be worth coming up to take a look. http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/1432177181.html
Chen... welcome! I've seen this written around the board many times before and I think it's pretty sage advice. Keep the money in the bank and spend some time here and read, read, read. Take a look at the classifieds, too. Search the hell out of this site and get a good idea at what interests you, what things go for, who or what is in your area, etc. Then, as a more educated consumer, go out and get what you want. So you know, a $2500 - $5000 project could end up costing 5 times that to complete.
That ad 54Caddy put up looks like a sweet start. The 31 "rat rod" your looking at looks like a $500 parts car... Im kidding of course, it has potential and is worth money, but Im thinkin half the asking price is more in the right ballpark for what your getting.
Excellent advise!! Many times a low dollar project ends up costing much more to complete properly than spending more money, up front, on a better car. Tons of expertise and EXPERIANCE here. Welcome
That motor looks like its been sitting out in the elements for awhile, I would seriously doubt that chassis also. I agree with some this looks like it was slapped together just to make a buck and I don't see enough there to warrant the price.
The rims and tires look good....anyone with talent could make it something out of it. not sure 5K but with some of the people on here have started with WAY worse and ended up with beautiful machines. Now if it was me...i wouldnt pay 5 K cause I dont have the skills nor equiment to bring that back. That thing has been sitting in the elements a long time.
One thing to remember, this is his "asking" price. In these economic times you'd be surprised what offers are accepted. If you do see something you like, shoot them an offer. Somebody recently posted a score on a $2000 buying price....the asking price was $5000.
wow thats my old car!! wish i got that much for it when i sold couple years ago.. nothings changed on it
maybe you should use the gun as part of your negotiating. Ya never know, guy might be scared by the tough guy look.
Half that price might be a decent deal. What's with the rear mounted radiator? Hope he wasn't serious. I'd be very suspect of the chassis work and engine. The link 54 Caddy put up is a much better start.
hahah good idea, but i lost the gun . Friends and I were using it for a photo shoot thing for one of my buddy's projects and I never go it back....oh well. Anyways, the Model A that Caddy posted up for me looks sweet. thanks man! I shot the dude an email, for $2k, we'll see how it plays out.
Cool! Good luck man! Just a heads up, that is a big project (esp. if you've never owned a classic car before). Plan on a lot of work and thousands of dollars to get that thing going. Confidence is huge going into a project like that and remember to keep it positive and dont get discouraged!
Yea, I feel like i might be getting in over my head....but i'm really excited about it and definitely willing to put in the work. Seriously...thanks for the advice/tips.
Hey Chen, Post a new avatar without the gun, makes you look like a psycho. I bought a complete running, driving original 30 coupe for not much more coin. Keep looking, they're out there, just don't be in to big of a hurry, patience my friend. you'll fine a good one in time, hell, it only took me 41 years hahaha
