Late last nite I was sarting at the TV - after my 3rd shift work. nothing cool was on...THEN...there was this caddy commercial. They started with finicky pricy black luxery sedans, such as mercedes-benz & lexus, dancing gracfully across the ballroom floor. Their doors flung open to show their style & grace. The music was classy. Then BAMMM!! the '05 caddillac STS, poped on the floor confronted the black sedans, did a burn-out, & got the "real" party started. Why ta go GM! This Ad rocks. It left a gearhead smile on my face as I went to sleep....

What vintage, or new car commercials/ ads suck in your head?Got any favorite advertising pics? What made you wnna go slam gears with the car you just saw....... [IMG]

I like that commercial too. it would be interesting to know where and how it was shot.

  3. I was not alive when they came out but I like the old GTO Endura bumper commercials with the dudes wailing on the front end with crowbars and shit. I hate to say it, but there is a new Mustang commercial out where this farmer builds a track in his field and then Steve McQueen comes out of nowhere and drives the guys 05 Stang around the track....pretty sweet. As dumb as the new (fake)hemi commercials are, some were funny. Also...GTO commercial where the Tiger jumped into the engine compartment.

  4. I loved those AMC Javelin commercials that showed a guy driving one and at every stop light some wild street machine would pull up to try and race 'em.

Also, the GTO "Humbler" commercials showing that special edition Goat being cruised through a drive in showing off.

I'm with you on that new Mustang ad, Buford- I was airing some season premier stuff last night in the doorway of TV Sweeps, and while I wasn't too surprised they were picking that time (during the "O.C.", of all shows, but smart plan for its demographic) to reveal a part of the new Mustang (just the headlight, then just the bumper in a 15-second ad), that farm field commercial was awesome, just put goosebumps on my arms.
Saw the image of Steve McQueen being handed the keys, and I whispered, "Eleanor..." Yeah, it's special effects, but I like throwback look of the new 'Stang, and even the way they show it off.
There's a current VW ad with the dealer that takes people out for test drives- the tester gets sets in, turns on the tuneage, gets a big toothy grin as they hit the freeway. Something about that really does it for me, just being in the zone and not wanting to get to the destination ("...you hungry?").
The hella funny Hemi ads are great, 'specially with one of those rubes in the front engine dragster at the street light (but just hearing that drag engine roar...). Looks like it was shot in Palmdale. Cool topic!
As a kid, I always liked the Datsun ads with the computerized cutaway view of the car ("We...are...dri-ven!")

  7. one of my favorites was the one where the kid turns the new javelin into a funny car look-a-like and his dad is walking around the car asking "what did you DO to it?" and the kid says "it's a great car, i just made it better" at which point the dad starts chasing him around the car about to kick his ass.

Couple of cool one's come to mind...

The Ford commercial from the 80s that featured lots of vintage Ford race cars gettin' it on...including Mickey Thompsons Mach 1. It had some chick singing "When was the last time, you had the kind of car, that brings the road alive? Have you driven a Ford? Then you don't know what you're missing! So turn the key on, put your foot down...get that feeling again! Have you driven a Ford....lately?!"

Another one I remember from a LONG time ago...I think it was for a car insurance company...it showed a bunch of people seated in a driving position and scooting along the road on their butts with no car! Then, this one geeky looking dude is sitting on the ground waiting for the light to change, and this dude come roaring up next to him in a driving hat and scarf, with a big grin on his face, revving his 'engine', and waiting for the light. When the light turns green, the sports car dude leans back and peels out...leaving two smoking black tire marks from his ass! I wish I had that one on tape somewhere!

1969, the 302 Chevy engine was new, there was a commercial, I think a gasoline company, maybe Gulf. The new 69 Camaro with the new 302 was running thru the gears with loud exhaust, downshifting, upshifting. Don't remember the product but the sound of the engine, fast car, has stayed in my head.

  10. Deuce, Thanks for jogging the memories on the Javelin Funny Car commercial.

Can you imagine back then when the Ad guy was trying to pitch that idea to his bosses or the client.

........and then the kid pulls up in this Logghe chassised, blown version of your car and tells Dad it's "Ok, I made it better". and then the old codger starts kicking the beejesus outta the kid and then.......excuse me sir, but boss it's a great idea, it's all in my head! [IMG]

Does anyone remember the commercial for oil... I think Pennzoil... that was an ultrasound of a baby... it just starts out all fuzzy and gray, but then you can make out the baby, he turns and "sits up" like he's driving and starts acting like he's pushing pedals and shifting gears... then it's something like "You can always tell the guys who use Pennzoil...

Always loved that one... I think that's what I was doing in the womb!

Another showed everybody going to work in variouse types of racecars that were all painted Penzoil colors! [IMG]

And a very old commercial of a little old lady showing off her "Bac-a-ruda" (Baracuda!)!!! [IMG]

  15. Oh, come on, guys, how young are you?

"But parked in a rickety old garage
Is a brand new shiny red Super Stock Dodge"

"Put a Dodge in YOUR garage, Hunnn-Nee!"

And although is was a bit of a mangle of a classic Car Song, having "Little GTO" sung in German as a GTI VW goes airborne was kinda cool...
