A friend went to a pre garage sale a few houses down from his house that a 78 year young lady was going to have soon. In the garage was this Lincoln convertible, all the lady could remember was that her and her late husband went on their honeymoon in it but doesn't remember much about the car like year etc. Soooooooooooooo what are we looking at here, year, model, etc. Desirability? Been sitting in the garage for years, sorry best pic's I can get for awhile.
Definitely a 54. Backup lights are the clue, as is the front bumper, grill. This thing is probably worth some $$. Would love to have it, but it is definitely up there. How many miles?
Definitely collectable and looks in pretty good shape. Be gentle with the lady, she probably isn't up to speed about current prices. The continental kit is worth big bucks to a Lincoln collector. Probably has many more options, too.
Let's see, u or your friend, or both, get this beauty for $1K, Ebay it for big bucks, result: quick riches! Or you can clean it up and auction on Kruse or Barrett Jackson. Sound about right?
I'm no expert. 1954 is correct. Do some searches on La Carrera Panamericana, the Mexican Road Race. Ford spent a lot of money preparing and racing these Lincolns in Mexico. They are legendary cars. My grand dad was fascinated with them but could only afford a Merc. This convert is a 5 digit car. Let your conscience be your guide. That's the kind of find that daydreams are made of.
You could rip off the woman and then flip it for big bucks...OR...you could be ethical about it and give her a fair price and enjoy it yourself for years. (THEN sell it for profit if you want to.) I'd go with option B. Greed is a killer. p.s. Buy it quick: once any of her relatives get wind of this they WILL block the sale! (They always do!! Trust me on this.)
Don't really know what your implying (no smiley face) but no it don't sound about rite. Can't speak for my friend, he can do whatever he wants, personally I wouldn't insult the lady with that low ball offer of 1k. I like looking at stuff like this BUT it's not my kind of ride at all & I don't need to rip off a nice little ole lady for a Lincoln. Lets just put it this way, she has no husband, kids, grand kids, significant other, etc. Someone is going to walk away with a nice Lincoln convert............. maybe the church!
If I was there to take the pic's it would have been pushed outside with pic's from every angle but I was not, besides it needs to stay inside outa sight till things are worked out whatever that might be.
Make whatever deal the owner will make with you. No church needs a Lincoln Convertible but I'll bet a parishioner would be willing to part with $500 to make them happy. If someone sells you a car for $500 it was a $500 car to them so they're happy and you're happy. No ethics involved here except those of a satisfied seller and customer making a fair deal.
Didn't want to sound like a greedy SOB, but just kicking around what someone could do. Obviously you are a good person, and I believe your friend is too. I just think there are alot of greedy people out there. I would look up a number 2 or 3 condition 54 Lincoln convertible with options in the NADA or other publications and keep that price in mind if you decide to make offer. IMO, anywhere from 33-50% of the vehicle worth would be acceptable, but who knows.
Or if you or your friend arent interested offer to sell the car for a comission , just dont let someone else take advantage of her many people would buy it for nothing then sell for a big profit but KARMA is a ***** .
More info, cloth top is shot, last tag-ed in 68, used to be Burgundy but repainted another Lincoln color, last fired up 6 years ago.
Well it is a *****in car, if you want to be noticed driving a car, that one will do the job, I would buy it if it was within reach... My 55 hardtop gets mega attention, that vert would be the bomb. I consider my 55 (avitar) one of my best buys EVER...
Old Car Price Guide Values 1. $52,000 2. $36,400 3. $23,400 4. $10,400 5. $6,240 6. $2,080 Only 1,951 made.
Looks like it came right out of the movie "The Long Hot Summer". It appears like it will need a lot to get it to minimum driver condition. You can probably get most parts OK though. Not a cheap car to restore. But a real beauty, too bad this was not the factory color.
I think is a 54 i can tell by the taillights on the bottom not the same as the 53 sweet capri how much they want for it?
Looks to me like a primo car for it's age. Seems to have all its parts......the top can be replaced easy enough. I personally like cars like that.....a convert with a continental kit would be real cool. One of those you can just slick up and drive....get lotsa looks. Even if not THE original color, I think she said it was another original type color.....so maybe not so bad.
I have 54 hardtop, that's a 54 , excellent car to drive or keep, it almost hurts , that I can't take care of it for the next 20 years, it will outlast all of us, built great. I have all the books and facts on it.
One of the Lincoln's running La Carrera Panamericana was hurt today. Lets hope they get back in the race. http://lacarrera2007.blogspot.com/2009/10/day-1-update.html
