I have a buddy that is ridding his garage of an old 302 and T10 4-speed sideloader. From what I gather both are complete. I guess my question is: is it worth going a picking up if they are free? This is something that I would most likley strip down and rebuild for my 55 Ford. Any advice and/or info would be great.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Free engine/trans? I'd be in the truck and on the way in a heartbeat! Even if you don't end up using them, someone with stuff you want may trade. This is why I have a shop full of parts for cars I don't even own......

There a good motor and willl fit fine in the 55 without any problem. Its not expensive to do an over haul if needed and the trans is also close to a bolt in so I say go for it.

  6. Even if you don't use it, it's trade material.

I took a 389 Pontiac sight unseen. It turned out to be a dog, a 63 389 service replacement block. That is one of the last with no provision for block mounting the starter.

Anyway, it had a set of long branch manifolds, but smaller diameter than my '67 Cat used. Checking into it they were for about a '60 H/O engine. Not pristine, cracked flange, welded, broken stud mis drilled off center.

BUT, a friend in the business was interested, so we swapped for my console base and a couple of small parts I needed.

He sold them at a profit, I would only expect that. And the 389, well I gave it to a guy that did me a couple small favors at work, mainly getting work we sent to his machine shop rushed through as I worked in a commercial truck dealership and time was always a big factor. So karma comes and goes around.

Hey Mark H., ain't it the truth!! it's much easier here that in Scotand. We are blessed with such a glut of "stuff" that is so easy to get compared with you lads. I really respect all my hot rod pals from other countrys who complete great builds that are MUCH harder to complete. Rock on brothers of persistence!! ~Sololobo~

Thanks Sololobo. It's not finding the parts that's the problem(especially if you know the right people!),it's finding the cash to pay for them!
Sorry to hi-jack your thread,Fatmyke, but,to give you an idea,I've heard of good Ford T10's going for £500 over here!
