You should have read the sticky at the top of the page first. This ain't no rat rod site. Traditional rods and customs. So get rid of the rat rod idea and build something cool.

Sit back, view and listen to what's happening here and you'll figure out pretty quick that the RR thing is not welcome. I've heard that there is a site for that, but not here my Alabama friend. That is not to say you can't learn a lot here, and who knows, maybe you'll get away from your original thoughts about what to build, traditional hot rods and customs are the coolest thing going anyway!

I found a 42 Chevy to make my Rat Rod out of . 6 inches off the bottom of the cab . 3 inches off the top . Suicide doors . Move the cab back 12 inches . 350 engine 350 trans . Rust in color

Anything not stock is custom . As for traditional how far back does something have to go to be so . It take more than deep pockets to make a custom ride . I have seen a lot of money spent on a ride that is not to my liking . That is why there are different makes and models out .

Any progress? Don't let anyone get to you, even though your building something they don't like you will probably still be using alot of tradition in the build, suspension setup, fabrication, body mods. Take what you get here with a grain of salt, even in some of the worst responses you will get there can be some good advice. Look past the disdain for rat rods here and absorb the knowledge. My truck by all accounts is probably a rat rod. But I've learned alot about how to and not to do things from building it. Most of that knowlege is from this site. Who knows one day mine might grow up to be a respectable hotrod.......... or not.

A word of advice is if you are taking 6 from the bottom and 3 off the top, test fit yourself in it first. Do the 3 off the top first (like I think I should have) then test fit yourself in it again. Measure headroom and allow a bit for bumps. Then figure out how much to take off the bottom. Mine has a 3.5-4 inch body drop on it and I believe that 3 off the top is going to almost be too much for me, but I'm 6' 1".

yes and no on the statement anything not stock is custom.

Yes it is custom if it has been altered from stock in any way.

But, A "Custom" car or truck is a certain style, a refined and clean version of factory or even a wild but still refined and clean vehicle.

Hotrods tend to have less refining(read more removing and more grit and grunt) but are still clean usually with a good paint job, not necessarily flashy but not always dull either.

I think it would make it easier on you and you would be better accepted if you refered to it as your jalopy truck instead of ratrod. They are similar but not the same if that makes sense.

All in all build what makes you happy, take what information from this site that helps you and ignore stuff that doesnt. If you read through my build thread there are alot of people hating on my truck, some of the things I've done so far, but I haven't let it get me down. I've taken alot of the advice to heart, and once the truck actually gets to my new house alot of what I've done will be re-done to make it better. It won't look any different, but it will be much better.

Welcome from East Alabama. Take your time to read some build threads and tech advice. Don't be too quick to call out people as a bunch of dicks. Be humble and take the ribbing you will get for saying Rat Rod.
The stuff you will learn from Ryan, KIRK, Bruce Lancaster, Dick Spadero, Flat Ernie, Kevin Lee, Brian Bass and others is priceless. Show some resilience and build it traditional not ratty.
    Just my opinion.

welcome from Hokes Bluff. Trouble is most folks don't fit a car as they build it. too many people want some thing real small and try to haul everything they own in it to go somewhere, then theend up trailering to a show or even a crise night. Stupid is as stupid does.
