Hey guys, i just got word that Im probably gonna be taking on a project 37 chevy coupe with my 12 year old sister.Shes wicked into hot rods (I started when i was 12 so now she wants to)
The body is a little rough but its got a complete 37 chevy ch***is setup with the complete drivetrain out of a 57 chevy (quite convenient seeing how thats my car! haha)

This project should actually move really quickly given the condition of the ch***is. So once im out of school for the year and on my breaks ill be working on it. My first step is to get it bolted to the ch***is and start putting the floors in setting up making sure its square and what not.
the body itself has a pretty nicely done 2 inch chop (i have to chop the doors)

this is the only picture i have of it now, body's a little rough (im used to it being from the northeast) ch***is is perfect.

I posted a thread on some sheet metal i need so if you know of anything reasonable let me know

Right on man.. Good job getting sis set up! Remember to teach her as you go and let her do some work! My sister does most of the work on her 51 chevy, I just keep an eye on her and coach:) its cool when you see them take pride in it just like you do!

yeah this car should be the perfect setup for her. Its got the drive train out of a 57 chevy (283 2 barrel with a power glide and highway gears) sadly its been converted to IFS out of a 1st generation camaro but that will be good for her too.

I think it will be a nice project. this one will definitely be a nice driver. But before i get too involved with the finished product i gotta put floors in it!! I was thinking about a 2 inch channel because the car has no floors at all now so it'd be the time to do it. But I am 6'2" so maybe not the channel since its got the chop!

Im going to school right now but should be working on it the weekend after this and some of the floors should be done but ill post pictures as i go!

Im going to teach her how to weld and have her start taking the initiative to read some how to books and websites on engines and brakes just to get the jist of it and ill come in with the details. Im just hoping she keeps the interest. shes loving it now though!

great lookin' ride... how about some ol' skool lettering on the doors???

  13. It looks like you got the Chevy sickness like myself. 37-38's have been part of my family for 40+ years. This is a retired g***er of mine that my dad bought in the late 60's. Ive been threatening to reinstall the old axle and give it hell once more....

Will do Ratfink57. How's things coming with you and your sisters project? I have a ten year old daughter who also loves Hot rods and Drag racing. She is always out in the shop with me wrenching and racing Her Junior Dragster on weekends. As a parent, I commend you for thinking of your sis and helping her be a part of something so cool. Be patient and keep it fun.

lippy,...thanks for the comments on my Chevs; the 37 and the 55 in my avatar are two of my all-time favorite cars. The 55 was a 210 tudor with a six cyl. stick overdrive trans, probly one of my most enjoyable cars to drive,...owned it back in the late 60's, it's long gone now. The 37 is a keeper, owned it for over 15 1/2 years, just started workin on it in Dec. 07,...it's runnin a 283/glide, just a nice driver, but I've always liked that look. Tried to build it as I would've in the mid 60's.

awesome. its gonna be a driver for me as well. my 57's my play car but the 37's half my sisters so more or less she'll be learning the 37! (and paying for fuel) so its good to get such input

I have a 36 coupe project myself, did you need to stiffen the doors with steel panels, mine are wood and very sloppy.
Also How low can you go with a solid axle in front?
