Greeting everyone. I hope to get some inspiration and as a question. I am want to redo the entire interior of my newly acquired 58 stepside. I was wondering if anyone had pics of 2 bucket type seats with a center console? I am leaning towards this application as I can have the seat lower to the floorboard and give me a bit more "Gut" room and with a center console I can hide some electronics in there. Since I am removing the gas tank. I was thinking of possibly placing the battery against the cab wall. I am ok with a bench seat. Just looking for ideas. I would appreciate any input and those of you that are 55,56,57,58,59 or any truck owners with an interesting interior, please show some pics some I might have some ideas. I have attached the most recent photos. The rust spots are nothing really serious, just cosmetic. I will be blasting the entire vehicle, so I can start with a clean slate. I am in the idea stage. Also I will be putting in an overdrive tranny and will probably have to modify the floor board to accommodate it. Any ideas on how to approach that? Bill Clovis, Ca
if you put in high back seat(s) you'll be scrunched up against the dash. If you lower the seat your knees will be bent up when you drive. Stock bench seat works nice in these trucks, also the 88-98 chevy pickup bench seat works pretty well. no need to mess with the floor for an od trans. I think it was an option in the 56 trucks?
If you look hard enough there were factory buckets in those trucks, I had a '59 GMC parts truck that had them in it. The newer Chevy benches fit in there well, give you the option for a third butt in the truck There's also no need to screw with the floor, you might just need to get the four speed hump, I put a SM465 in mine, tons of room to spare.
when you start talking about center consoles, electronics, and overdrive, you might be on the wrong board. This is more of a bench seat, non-electronic, non-overdrive board. You know, traditional. Like it says in the "read this first" thread.
Please!!! no high back buckets or any buckets for that matter, ruins the look inside and out of those trucks...stock or 88/newer as mentioned...NO head rest
I wish I would have kept them, I just left them in the cab after I stripped it and cut the top off for a patch panel. The remains were crushed by a Cat and used as driveway fill... (shhh, don't tell the gub'ment!)
Something to consider. Click to enlarge. They're out of a '98 or so Ford with modifications. Holler if you think they'll do for you.
