History NZ Hot Rod Magazine - 500th Issue

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Greg Stokes, Oct 26, 2009.

  1. Hopefully this doesnt come across too commercial but I am very proud to say that we are celebrating our 500th Issue of the New Zealand Hot Rod Magazine.
I guess to put this into perspective for everyone on the HAMB, NZ Hot Rod Magazine was first launched in 1967 but even 10 or more years before that - hot rodding was very strong in New Zealand with alot of chopped and channeled coupes and roadsters being built and it was the Campbell Brothers in Auckland that first formed the magazine.
Rob & Owen Campbell went on to become perhaps the longest standing editor and and art director respectively for 37 years until ownership was taken over by Paul & Liz Grace in 2004.
Up until then the magazine - mostly black & white was hand laid with the old school methods of glue and cut & paste etc - the Grace's switched to electronic/digital era and upped the 40 pages to 84 pages - this 500th issue is 132 pages.
I guess its just a really interesting story if you compare the NZ Hot Rod Magazine to what is available overseas however, the feedback of this current 500th Issue rates right up there with the best of them - TRJ and Hop Up etc etc
This issue features Chris Hornblow's 30 A coupe and the ex Golly Adams 56 gasser, Jeff Klein's 32 sedan (pictured), the history of NZHRM's Project T and an overseas feature of the Pinkee's built lime green '32 Tudor as well as ex pat Kiwi, Squeak Bell's '40 coupe.
Not to mention a bunch of never before published material.
