Im having some local highschool kids build me a gasser out of my 63 fairlane. We got a good 429 out of a 70 t- bird. im lookin to dress it up a bit, thats all.
Well, We got it out, built the car for it and ran the numbers. It turns out it is a 365 horse motor from a 1969 mustang. man, It makes this lil car haul ass.
Mustang did not come with a 429, they had a FE 428. It most likely came from the T Bird or a Linc or big Merc. I have a D1 blocked stroker (552ci) in my Mustang now, I will see if I can find some pics.
Thunder jet 429 first available in 68 Tbirds 360 hp. Bought a 68 TB that the guy swore was a 428 motor ( also available in 68 )All built now and waiting on the back burner for the Bantam project....
..Chrome won't get you home... BTW, Mustangs DID come with 429s, the Boss 429 had aluminum heads though, kinda rare beast, wish i had one!
Here's mine: 1971 thunderjet 4V block 1970 DOVE-C heads with cobra jet valves and port matched Blue thunder dual quad hi-riser 2 x 450 hollies (race carbs) Blue thunder ribbed valve covers crane cam edlebrock water pump aluminum timing cover and roller timing chain windage tray sanderson headers
yah it been a project of mine for the last 2 years , its a 69 mustang (not hamb material ) but aney ways lots of work , it has a morrison chassie ,been channeled 4 inches , lot and lots of metal work about 1400 hours worth so far every thing except the roof has been modifyed , the motor is out to the engine builder getting finished up right now , but trying to fit that huge 429 under the hood of the 69 that has been channled was fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly! The Boss 429 is NOT a normal 429/460! There are people building "Boss" engine from them now though.
Its a GREAT motor, anyway you dress it, Jim...mine is not too purty, right now, its kinda got that "Disco-Stew" late-70's action going on, but, it runs good. Future plans call for some Blue Thunder finned covers, because they are one of the few that will clear the valvetrain. M/T marketed their own finned ones, way back, but folks want $$$ for 'em now, if you can find a set of "Hardin Marine" finned covers, they are the same, but, cheaper/less desirable...I scored a set for $ 48.00, but, I gave then to a friend who has a 429 in an open engine car ( he NEEDED 'em more than I...) I have a hood! They also DID clear my valvetrain...
