I love this build. When it comes time to put mine together. I am going to just bring up this thread and use all lessons learned and build a sweet ass hot rod like Turkey is doing.

I also agreed with the gusset in the steering arm, but bend it first I can't imagine bending it after the gusset is installed.

Wait a minute...you're a newbie at this and already doing this quality of work?
How about quit your job and start your own shop. Not many people have this much natural ability.

  3. Cool thread! Really nice work.

Thanks guys, I enjoy doing the fab work. I've not really had a deadline til now and it's starting to wear me down. Only got 2 hours sleep last night. I want to get this thing done for the billetproof so bad it's all I think about. I only have 122 days. I think I can do it, but it will be a challenge. I'm going to bed!

Man is this one killer hotrod, just a word of advice, be careful setting a deadline on a build. That is a sure fire way to take all the fun out of building cars, and it's really crushing and demotivating to not make it (ask me how I know lol....) on the other hand you're doing such good work so fast I honestly believe you will do it!! Thanks for the insparation and for pretty much makeing a build book for all of us to follow!

Oh and by the way, having a friend that will come over and block sand with you is priceless, I hope you have the fridge stocked full of his favorite beverage and I'm sure this goes without saying but be sure to ruturn the favor when he needs help on his ride. It's cool to see guys helping eachother out on their builds like this!

Spent the day sand blasting the springs, blocking the frame and grinding the rear wishbones. There are many hours in those bones! I hope to finish them tomorrow.

Do you mind tellin me how you achieve this level of finish?
Im supposing you do this w/ basic home-shop equipment, like a grinder
and various grit papers, but it looks soooooooo perfect i had
    to ask:eek::eek:.
Thanx for your time.......cant wait to see more progress.....

I just use a grinder then 80 grit with my DA on spin. Then 220 slower followed by buffing. I like to get the parts as smooth as possible to show any imperfections, when I'm satisfied with the finish I hit it one last time with 180 for good adhesion. You would think I was crazy for the time put into each part. I just enjoy doing it. Thanks

Just as i would do it, only i never been that patient and consequentley i never reached that level of finish.
Now that i know whats possible i sure will take more time and try to get closer to your final product next time i'll be doin something on that line.
You sir are a true inspiration!

HT--this is what rodding was all about back in the late '50's or early '60's. The drive to do whatever it takes to get the car done and get it done right. The perseverence to come home from work and then work on the car till 2 AM with anyone or no one that showed up to help. Shows who you can count on.
Yes, you want to have fun with the build but the fun really starts when it gets driven. Pushing to get the photos done is just icing on the cake. Partially completed projects need to get "finished" and driven ASAP.

Wait until someone asks you if yours is a "kit car".

By the way, download the photos into your computer and then "attach" them from there directly to the HAMB page. It's easier than Photobucket and the photos stay forever. You click on the paperclip thing at the top of the post and then find the photo to attach.

After much advice from fellow hammers, I went with a different steering arm. I picked the Superbell, it looks much better. The only problem I have with it is the casting marks.
