I am thinking about buying one of the many advertised powder coating starter kit, so far I am leaning towards the eastwood kit. Have any of you used this kit or one like it? are they worth buying or should I just stick with paint? Thanks Shawn
I started with a Harbor Freight setup. Very basic but works. Then graduated to a commercial one off Ebay. The basic unit is good for learning. I bought a large used wall oven from Habitat for Humanity store and started coating. Bought powders from several on line sources. I like Summits powders. I don't know who their vendor is but the powder flows great and the Extreme chrome is very good. High distinct image and doesn't really need clear.
Looking foward to some more input on this, have everything but the gun and powder...plaese keep your info coming...thanks
I use one of the eastwood small "Cheaper" unit. It works ok for suspension and some engine parts but I can never get a consistent coat on any of the parts? Some would be very smooth while the next one would have heavy orange peel. I have also found that I can not successfully powder coat pot metal. The heat causes it to develop bubbles. Scott...
I bought a gun from the local parts store, I charge the parts with a 12 volt battery on an old oven rack(hanging the parts), once coated, I insert the rack into an old oven with parts still hanging and bake. Time depends on how big the parts are. Of course with this set up i can only do small enough parts, but it suits me...
I live a few miles from Eastwood. Alot of guys around here have the Eastwood setup and like them. I like what BOBCRMAN said. Check the internet. See what info you get from HAMBers and go from there. Smokey
Hey Guy's thanks for the input. It sounds to me that it is better than paint. Most of the parts that I will be doing will be small to med underhood parts, brackets and so forth. Thanks Shawn
scott, prebake items at a slightly higher temp than the cure temp and it will stop the "outgas" holes you see.
