I know the Volkswagen enthusiasts are routinely thrashed on this site, but is there any love for Corvairs? Okay, barring love for Corvairs, can anyone point me to a website or two for Corvair enthusiasts? I just bought one for my wife ('61 Lakewood Wagon), and would like to smooth out the learning curve as much as possible. -Brad
i have a huge soft spot for Corvairs , my father had a ****load of them while i was growing up. i believe he had owned at different times 9 of them. i drove a `65 Monza to high school most days if i didn't drive my `30 model A just for the record, i never thrashed any VW's on here
I've got a 1962 I'm trying to turn into a mild custom, just rebuilt the brakes, just gotta get the engine going again. My Grandpa goes through about 4 or 5 a year, restores them and sells them again, so there was some pressure to get one for my first car.. I'm probably going to sell it for way too much after I drive it for a while and buy a nice Spitfire or a frame and a motor for a hot rod project. I secretly love Corvairs though, great cars.. for rolling death traps..
I only have 5 Corvairs, including the one in my avatar. That one is a 62 Convertible. Also have a 63 Greenbrier Van, 67 Monza Coupe, 65 Monza Convertible, and a 66 Monza Coupe, modified. Member of the local Niagara Frontier Corvair Club, and the national organization called CORSA (Corvair Society of America) http://www.corvair.org/index.php For Forums, try Corvair Center http://corvaircenter.com/phorum/list.php?1 There is also Virtual Vairs which an e-mail based forum. The wagons are very unique and hard to come by. also check out Clark's Corvair parts, http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/main get the catalog as there is enough tech info and exploded diagrams to help you out. Repair manuals are readily available both new and used. Also, either through Clark's or CORSA there is a Corvair basics manual that is invaluble to learning about these. There is also the CORSA tech guide that has just been updated and is a collection of articles about repairs and tech tips. Have fun with it! Gary
I have a '63 Monza. There are 2-3 Corvair threads going right now on the HAMB. It's like all of a sudden it's ok to be out of the Corvair closet and now everyone wants one.
I don't own one right now, but Corvairs have been a topic around here lately. First a buddy buys one last spring, and goes over the edge and now has four of them. Then out of the blue a call comes from a gal that got hers brand new in 1964,and can I get it back up and running? Long story short I have been the care taker for one of the cleanest I have ever seen. I just saw a '63 sitting on a side street with three year expired plates yesterday, so it probably won't be long before I have to make room around here again!
there's acouple of front engined{conversions of course} here in the pnw. One was cross bread with a s.b.Ford up front. I always thought a fwd set up out of a Corsica or Grand am would make a killer mid engine combo in one. There was a picture of a black front engine g***er style 'vair posted a while back too.
66 corsa 180 turbo-charged . if i can get the thing to run the way it should . i'll have a fun daily driver. along with the rest of my obscene collection or drivers/ projects
