Been lurking and though now is as good a time as any to say hi. I've started working on a '48 Ford F1 Panel about, hmmm lemme count and I need both hands for that, 8 or nine years ago. The truck began life as a 7up delivery truck in Colorado. Well since then I got married, marrying leads to a house and both of those lead to a baby and all that adds up to a neglected hot rod. It is time to get moving again and finally finish (HAH! I'll settle for drive) it. Right now the old 48 flatty has been pulled and I now have a built '49 flatty with a merc crank, 3.3/8 overbore, big valves, 3/4 cam, full flow oil filter, alternator conversion, mallory distributor, vintage two deuce high rise intake with a pair of stromburgs. Plans are to put a T5 behind it. Pulled the stock rear axle and installed a 9" out of a 71' Ranchero with big brakes and the fat axle housings and installed reversed eye mono leaves all around. The front brakes have been swapped for discs. Plans call for black suede, tribal flames, steelies, caps and rings, wide whites and being low. Right now I'm trying to play catch up to time as what was once a pretty solid body has crusted up from neglect from the last few years. I'm in Northeast Florida, a part of Jacksonville. If yer in the neighborhood, stop on in. Photos: web page
You filled out your bio. did a detailed intro. had photos. I think you will fit in here fine. Welcome. One other thing when you put the disk on the front did you save the drums and backing plates. They are very vauable to hambers some body here would buy them from you. Bobby..
The paint wasn't in as good a shape as appears in the early photos it was crazed and powdery. But I took photos of everything if I ever wanted to recreate it. Keep in mind when I got the truck I was in my 20s and didn't give a crap. Now that I'm older and (allegedly) wiser I probably would have kept it. K9 I have kept everything I took off the truck and if anyone would like anything they can contact me and we can talk turkey.
Thanks y'all. I'd like to get it done for next summer. Upon hearing that plan my wife laughed at me, and it wasn't a short laugh.

Nice post welcome to the board. I have found it to be a great place just to lurk. Many knowledgeable people around here to, they can help you with just about anything. I like the truck and the others are right, the 7-Up logo would be sick on that thing.
Welcome! Awesome history, I agree with "too bad the logos are gone". But, you have pics, and could recreate them.
Welcome aboard from So-Jax, down in East-Mandarin (the redneck side). Nice looking ride, I am surprised that the salt beach air hasn't eatin on that body more than it has, even though you lost the cool logos you probably saved that body by priming it. Along the coast and where he lives at the a/c units in the hotels rust to shit in about 2 years. If you hit any of the local shows let me know.
Welcome! Sounds like you'll have a kickass ride when you're done -- speaking as a fellow flattie-powered-F1 guy. (Mine's a pickup.) I know exactly what you mean about not getting around to finishing such projects. I'd never in a million years actually get done with any car I'd completely disassembled. That's I just fix up my F1 as I go. I have a rule that it can't be undriveable for more than two months in a row. Granted, satisfying that rule meant driving it around the block w/o brakes a few times for shits and giggles, but that's a different story. Good luck on your project! Post some pics as it progresses. Dave
Thanks again. Dixiedog I really don't know of any local shows other than the Turkey Rod run. I'll probably be headed down there for a day to troll the swap area. I'm on the Intracoastal side (Po side) of Atlantic Beach so the salt ain't so bad but its still there. When restripping the truck the patches still covered by old paint were getting rough. Bedllam, that's the route I should have taken. Plus the drives would help keep the motivation fresh and would have saved me some grief. I drove the thing off the trailer with a foot and a half of play in the steering and needed three feet to stand on the brakes. The lack of a muffler sounded so sweet. No sooner did I get the front sheetmetal off and the engine out and shipped off to get built I got a nastygram from the town fathers informing me that they were going to tow and dispose of my "abandoned" truck. Bastards, I built a crappy shed and slid it inside untill they shut up. I need to update the site a bit cause I have a lot more photos than that. I'll let you know when I do.
welcome, mule. i don't know how many 48 f-1 panels belong to hambers, but i do know that you and i have two of them. gregg didn't say, but i think his is a '48 also. i've seen it and talked with him, but i can't even remember what i had for breakfast this morning, let alone what year his panel is. there are a couple of '51/'52's around, too. i won't bore you now, but sooner or later you'll see pix of clarence, my panel. it ain't very pretty, but it sure is fun. i've been driving mine since february of 73. i can't kill it, but it might rust out from under me. see ya down the road...
Decent intro....... WELCOME to the Hamb I had a 48 F1 panelyears ago........I messed up and sold it. I wanted a 56 F100 panel more...... There's a old mid 40's Chevy panel that comes to the Turkey Run every so often with Gordon's Potato Chips on it ....very old original paint on it and it sounds NASTY... See you at Daytona Thanksgiving. I will be in my old beater....1940 Ford or the 32 Ford roadster....shown in the upper left hand side of this post. .
