I am picking up a 54 chrysler custom on friday. It has the spitfire flat six in it with a auto ******. The engine bay is not detailed at all and pretty much looks as if it has never been touched. Sooooo.... i would like to put in a different motor and ******. I was thinking either a Rocket motor or a nail head. But a flat head V8 would be fun. I dont know im basically looking for some ideas. I have never really heard anything about a spitfire 6 so maybe its worth keeping i dont really know. Let me know what you all think. -Andrew
A 50's Hemi would be the easiest because you could use all stock Mopar parts. The six is OK for cruising but low powered for anything else. I've been looking at a '60 Dodge truck with the six and a four speed in it that's for sale locally. Not looking too hard though. pigpen
I agree, IF you can afford the 331 Hemi. I ran a '49 Windsor with the six and can accurately report that you will NOT be pleased with what p***es for performance with that mill. They don't last over-long, either. If you just want to cruise happily, toss a SBC and weld the hood shut so nobody harr***es you for it Cosmo
hey some one from around here. What do you drive? You might have seen some of my other cars. I have a chopped 49 gmc truck and a red and white 56 chevy right now.
Man that looks real nice. If you get a chance when you pick it up, could you get some color shots? I believe the hemi will bolt up to the flat 6 motor mounts also. later plmczy
