Any body not lower their 20s-40s hot rod?

With exception to people wanting to build g***ers it seems like one of the first things people do is lower their cars until there isn't enough space to slide a dead mouse under it. I have always wanted to do an early thirties car and now I have a couple leads on a couple near give away 30's or earlier cars sitting out in the weeds. I plan on keeping it at stock height or even a little higher because the roads around here are horrible. Wondering if anyone here has not lowered their hot rods and has some pictures of them.

This is why I want to do a "high" Hot Rod. The one pot hole is over a half a foot deep and two feet in diameter  In the spring it is much worse. This is about a mile from my house.

I agree with you. I'm not into the ground s****ping lowered rods either. I'm trying to build a 25 RPU that will be stock ride height. The only exception is a 4" dropped straight axle in front. Kind of give it a "Stink bug" at***ude.

SlamCouver, that was the sort of idea I had for a Hot Rod :) I am not really into the whole lowering thing, guess it comes from living in an area where everyone has big jacked up trucks. My friend used to drive a lowered Honda, dang thing would get hung up on the friggen highway.

    "Nosebleed is the new slammed."
Nope, slammed was just a p***ing fad brought to you by the mini truckers of america, time to get back to the basics.

Those A's loook good in any height but not all cars look good at stock height. Not that Im think you should lower everything but some stuff just looks better lowered. As far as what you are saying in your post I completely agree. Im from new orleans and man what a ****ty road system they have. I understand what your saying but some cars just look better with a nice low stance.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that isn't stock height. You lowered it when you used smaller diameter tires.

I borrowed this picture from here on the HAMB it was one of Ryan's editorials ***led "Sinister", I hope that's ok Ryan. Great read and a killer car sitting at what I believe is close to stock height.

Cant say I didnt lower mine, actually has a drop axle, drop spring and crossmember, with spring in front and it still sits high. All of my cars it pisses me off if I cant change the oil and greese the u-joints without jacking it up. Check out Weeks46 coupe it is stock highth and killer[IMG]

a local car, built back east in the 60s. Looks really funny with the front end sitting up like that...having the same size tires front/back just makes it look even stranger.

He threatened to put radials on it, same size front/back of course. I might get the old tires! they're from the 70s

Well.... Maybe the crank start doesn't make the car look tougher as much as the guy using it ;)

Study the Doane Spencer roadster. A perfect stance with everything tucked up high in the ch***is for ground clearance. Designed for racing on rough roads.

My Es*** was built with a Corvair front end back in 1979. This is how it looked when I picked it up last year.

I thought it sat a bit too high so I chopped a coil out of the front springs. It dropped a couple of inches, not super low by any means, but enough to eliminate the big gap between the tire and the fender edge.

I used to drive my '56 Austin Healey (lowered to about 4" of ground clearance to the frame, less to the exhaust) down 2 1/2 miles of gravel road that looked a lot like this (my road had "washboards" too). It can be done! Of course, I also holed my oil sump on one notable occasion, and dragged the exhaust a little most of the time...:D

I like ground clearance under my cars. My 52 Pontiac is lifted in the back a little to keep it closer to stock ride height while I have tools in the trunk, spare and other things I keep with me in case I need them.

I lowered my 46 Dodge some, but I can still get a jack under it easy and I shouldn't have to worry about anything traveling the rough roads of WV.

I don't mind a car a little lower, but never been into the ones dragging the ground...

That road is pretty mild compared to the spring time. My friend's mother took out her front A-arm on her Chevrolet Caprice on that very stretch of road  Seems like every spring I come across a couple of stuck cars in the middle of the road along with random parts. Used to be worse actually until the state threatened to pull funding for townships that didn't maintain their roads up to a certain standard. There was a particularly bad stretch of road a few miles south of my parents that 4x4s used to get stuck in until that township was told by the state to do a better job. Now you only get stuck with 2 wheel drives  I have found ground clearance always helps.

  30. That black "Sinister" T has also been lowered with old timey tricks. That car is purrrrfect!
