i think this 1958 international s-100 pickup is going to be my project this winter... i would like to turn it into a g***er. what do you guys think? i need to get it out of my storage area and get er cleaned and take more pictures...
I think that would make a sweet g***er. I'd put a built IH 345 in it with a four speed T19 out of a 2 wheel drive Scout. It'd keep it IH and pretty damned different lol. Don't know what kind of quarter you'll be running with that old IH though! They're beefy enough to take nitrous if you can get the heads to flow. Might be fun...
mostly just for looks ill run it at the track but more les just to drive around town...no one around here is into stuff like this...
A G***er was a serious drag race vehicle, that's a cool old work truck, I could not imagine all the work and dedication it would take to make it into a serious drag race vehicle. The term "G***er" should be respected and not totally watered-down if a vehicle is raised up a little in the front. JMO.
Shorten & bob the bed, bout 4inch chop on the top, nose in the air, fat meats on the back, Fenderwell headers, be a Bad Ride & different, which makes it Kool!
it will be all out serious drag truck...just no drag srtip around... the closest one is only 1/8th mile...im more into the look for this truck than the purpose..
It takes work and dedication to make ANYTHING into a serious drag vehicle....We just did it, and it will get more serious each year... Trucks have advantages, and disadvantages...just like anything else...beside, do you have ANY IDEA how big the smile it puts on your face when you fly by a $50,000 + '55 Chevy in a farm truck??? lol... THATS tradition...big motor+available/cheap/expendable ch***is. DO IT!!! I agree with not "watering the term down", however...it be less apt to be snorted down a nose or ten, derisively, if you make it RUN! Like it or not, though, "G***er", in modern lingo, is headed for the rocks... But...life changes.
it takes works and dedication to build any car and some brains to make it safe...well not any... i have seen some **** i wouldnt evean pull it on a trailer down the road... im no newb to any of this....and yeah i do i blew the doors off a 2007 zo6 vette with a peice of **** 1990 dodge daytone but thats new ****
I just drug home (almost literally) a 195? S120 truck with my '54 S180 logging truck a few weeks ago and have been wondering the same thing. It has no engine, rear axle, bed, and the ****** is still over in my neighbors s**** pile, but the cab is in very good shape rust wise, although it does have some good dents in it (typical old farm truck). I have been all over the board with it...4x4 with Dana 70's and 37" tires, daily driver with a IH Black Diamond 6 or AMC/Jeep 4.7 stroker 6 and an old Bell service body, or G***er it, idk...I say you should do yours so I can decide what to do with mine lol. What are you intendinng one doing for the drivetrain? As has been already said I think if you could get the heads to flow you could feed it with a ton of nitrous or boost if you ran a 345 or 392. Plus think of all the 392's laying around in old busses...plus pretty much nobody wants them so you could just run junkyard bottom ends until the blow and then swap them out...a;though with how heavily built these engines were that might take some doing.
OK, I get the point, but if I see a post about a 1-ton flatbed with a granny-gear 4-speed and industrial engine billed as a "g***er" b/c it has a 4-inch front lift and a pair of ladder bars welded on the back I may just puke a little. Wheels-up G***er memories for me will never fade...
LOL!!! Hell most of my projects have real kobwebz along with real spider ****, black widows, hadn't opened a couple of the trunks on the projects, might be a surprise skull layin in one of them!!! 40chevythrowensparks I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya, on the windsheild.
40chevythrowensparks oldihc.org Post a want ad for the windsheild in the cl***ified section, you'll have to register to do that.
just call a local gl*** shop, my "gl***" guy got me one for my '50 ihc in a week. cheap too, i think it was only a 150 bucks brand new!
i think i have tracked down a 454bb i can use for now...would like to keep it all IH but that will take a while to track down parts...sooo for now its going to be a 454 with a built th400...
How bout if you make some molds from your parts and go with a fibergl*** tilt front running boards and rear fenders? get the box's flat panels reproduced in aluminum
