I have been looking around on the site and found that there are many items of interest to me. I feel like there is a lot of variety of both the vehicles and the people who own them on this site. I am from middle Tennessee, and I own a 1951 GMC 1-ton flatbed(dually). I originally had plans to restore the old truck but soon realized that I wanted something more than a 40 mile and hour vehicle. I elected to purchase a donor vehicle and replace the entire running gear. I bought a 1978 chevy c-30 that once belonged to my father. He had sold it a few years back right after rebuilding the 454 that was in it. When I purchased the truck the PO had only put about 5,000 mile on it in about 5 years. My intentions at that point was to remove the cab off the 78 frame and install my 51 cab. With new running gear this truck would be able to pull just about anything I could hook to it. My original thoughts would be to pull another vehicle such as a mid 50's car or another truck on a gooseneck flatbed. I have even thought about an ald tractor. My father has since purchased a 1946 chevy 1/2 ton pickup which would be an ideal candidate. I currently have the 51 cab mounted on the 78 frame with 454 running and drivable but I don't have a large enough radiator to keep it cool during nor do I have gl***. The body is currently in primer, and the flat bed is in place with a rachet strap and a stack of 2x4's as spacers. I am in the process of cleaning up the interior and building my real bed mounts. I don't have any formal education in regards to building one of these trucks and everything that I have done pretty much comes from trial and error. I hope that I am able to gain some additional knowledge through this site as well as maybe help someone else along the way.
