im just trying to find some stuff out on 50s pontiacs. does the pontiac have the same bolt pattern as a 50s chevy? also would i be able to use a 50s chevy seat? im new to all of this.. i guess what im asking is if any of the parts are interchangable at all? haha any help would be awesome thanks.
from what i can tell some of the parts from a chevy will work, but the front clip is all different, as is most of the suspension. i believe the bolt pattern for the wheels is the same, and the seat should be very close to the same if not exactly the same. i have a 50 silver streak, and i know most of the parts are different from a chevy to mine, even a 2 door sedan of each has a different wheelbase entirely. a hollander book will get you close, but you still may have to deal with some trial and error for parts. pm me if you have any specific questions or are looking for parts i know a few people that are into the pontiacs.
There's some things you can use, lots that you can't. Doors, roof and glass are the same, trunk lid could be switched out also. Chevy floor pans can be made to work, they aren't exactly the same. Fender skirts will not interchange either as the Pontiac has a different fender skirt lip. Fuel tanks are different. The wheels will not interchange. They have different bolt patterns. There's a parts interchange manual on my website that tells you a lot of the parts that will interchange. - linked in my signature Dave
yep,,, what he said.... there are parts that will fit,, and ALOT of parts that are unique to Pontiacs. Even between years there are differences just small enough to mess with ya. For instance (off topic of year) a 1953 pontiac can have a 1954 hood. the hood off of the 54 will fit.. BUT!!!!..... the stainless silver streak on a 54 is shorter by about 3/4 of an inch so you cannot use the stainless trim off of the 53 hood on it without some hammering.... I've found the list goes on and on..... all in all,, I couldn't be happier with my pontiac though,,, I LOVE IT.
