If the door is going to open then I like it even more. Non-opening doors seemed like kind of a cop-out considering the m***ive amount of metal work on the rest of the car. Kinda like a chopped car with no side gl*** or something like that.

I'm liking that 2 seater Buick photoshop above too.

The new door tops now look like something a designer would have drawn out on one of his best days.

is there going to be some kind of bumper under those headlights?? that could influence the flow to the body (my 2 cents on the headlight thing)...other then that I love it

    This is an amazing build!!!
Input??? I am a little concerned over the door treatment. The curve is not quite "fair" IMHO. From the headlights ( which I agree, seem to be extended a little too far) to the windshield post the gentle radius on the top of the fender is perfect, but from the post to the rear of the door it seems to be a little sharper. The abrupt change where the rear of the door meets the rear ****pit cowling (for lack of a better description) looks out of place to me. Perhaps a slight "upward turn" in the rear of the door??? Maybe blend it in to the rear "cowl"??? Kinda like the older Corvette doors. Could even add the Vette flush door handles.
I can't really tell from the pics but the hood might look better with an inch less crown also.
Just throwing out some thoughts... IN NO WAY criticizing your build.
You are doing some incredible work there and I could not even begin to match it. Just my .02 cents from a FNG to the site... but not to building.

  8. Brought over from the other thread if you missed it. Kinda like the look you're after.

I think the headlights look good way out in front of the body.
The rear of the car has a lot of overhang, so having the headlights way out front balances that out, so you just need to flare the shape under the headlights back into the car some and it will be perfect.

And as far as the skirts... I don't think it really needs them, but the ones in James D's illustration sure do look good.

The whole car is pretty much on target now.

YES! I thought that was what this car needed from the beginning. Now you just have to transition the "sweetheart dip" to follow the leading edge of the fin and you've got a winner. The side trim was mentioned earlier, I like the expanded metal idea, but have you given any thought to a cove? (ie. late-fifties corvettes)

Is the driver's side the 'new' side? If so it looks good that way. The cut down door is out of place to my eye, to that design. Someone said a bit larger windshield. I think I also agree. You're doing there what appears to be a GM Motorama styling study and that's a good thing. There were some off the hook ideas in those days. Headlights, yeah, and already been said too.

I am glad to see you are reconsidering the cut down door. What you now have mocked up flows so well and ties in with the softer look of the rounded fin. I like the direction your going with this. Lots of work but you clearly seem up to the task. Best wishes..

Love it all! Bring the headlights back about 3" and blend the lower edge to match the flow of the rest of the tin! Amazing work brother!

The Vee shape at the rear of the door mirrors the idea for side trim (although it runs rather too parallel as it is now - they should converge), but I think the whole thing depends on how you intend to make the line of the top of the door meet the base of the fin. It looks unresolved at the moment...er...unsurprisingly!

Nice! Maybe you should have started with a Kaiser Darrin though. You would have been a lot closer to the look. ha ha ha

I like the doors better this way, the cut down ones reminded me of all those ones you see in the 40's and 50's, but I have never been too keen on that look.

I was going to mention the windshield the other day.. with you in it the hieght looks ok, but I feel the reverse angle is too sharp, it was designed to flow with the cutdown door that is not there any more..
Imo, I would play with making it a little taller still, and work with the header bar a bit.

I was going to mention that you could fab up some retractible steps that fit under the rocker, but I think the opening door idea is better....or not! haha

next time I suggest doing the whole car in clay, and the when you are done desinging,do it in steel!:D

  28. I was going to disagree with everyone about the direction your going in, BUT.....if you put your finger over the section behind the rear wheel it balance's it out....well I think anyway, so in summary, if you get rid of the door drop outs, look at thinning the lower rear section.
I hope this makes sense.......its morning over here and i have only been awake for 20 mins :)

OK, this right here ruined it for me. I no longer have interest in this car, ugh. :D

+10 for the doors, +5 for the skirts. Nice thinking!
