F100 spindles?

I've looked thru the tech section a bit and did a search on F100 brakes and found some great info on swapping them onto earlier spindles, which is what I'm planning to do with mine. I've got a '56 F100 axle complete with brakes coming next week. I'm going to use the brakes on my Model A with an aftermarket drop axle. My question is, why aren't the F100 spindles used? There must be a good reason as I haven't heard of anyone doing this, I just don't know what it is. Thanks!

Most guys don't like the way they look. With the bolt thru the spindle, and large steering arms.

I've used Econoline axles quite a few times. Cost is a small percentage of "Traditional" old Ford fronts. Hardest part is finding the old Econoline and F100 fronts.

  3. I always thought it was because the stubs sit at the wrong caster angle!!!!

I used 56 f-100 spindles on my 32 and they worked great. had to bend the steering arm obviously.

  5. Just finished to day a tube axle using F 100 spindles. I am happy with it. The fellow who bought the car I am building asked how i decided to use them. I told him because I was given them. I cut off the linkage arm and cleaned up the steering arms . I made a new arm for the linkage to the steering box. Pic available.

Ditto on the photo request Don. I am another one who always was under the impression that the F100 spindles had a different angle between the kingpin and spindle it's self than the early ones.

  8. I've done it and yes the pin angle is a little off but you can have the axle bent to correct it if it's a Forged axle. Also the king pin is a little larger and the Pin boss needed to be reamed to fit.

Thanks for the input guys! I'd be interested to see the pics too and find out more about the angle difference in the kingpins. I haven't even had a look at the ones on my F100 axle yet. The 37-41 spindle is a nice looking piece. 19-c did you have any alignment issues when you used the F100 spindles?

f-1 and f-100 are different ...f-1 spindles have the same kingpin dia. and will prett much bolt on an early ford axle camber is a couple of degrees off ...f-100 have a larger kingpin and are like 15 degrees off on camber . once you cut the arms off and put bolt on arms the look same as 48 spindles from outside appearance
