Just was reading that Memphis has closed its track. What a shame. Click on link to read story. Jon http://www.dovermotorsports.com/track/press/article.php?dir=200910&id=3283
According to this story the NHRA has pulled out also. http://www.competitionplus.com/inde...is-motorsports-park-makes-significant-changes
I hope someone local to Memphis buys it. Like Mark Pickens, the owner of Clay Millican's top fuel team. There's a whole bunch of folks who race there and attend races. Someone should be able to make it work. The asking price is 10 million bucks. That seems like a good price for a place of this quality with a 1/4 mile NHRA drag strip, road racing course, NASCAR track, and a smaller oval track.
That dragstip will not stay closed ... The banks are just kicking out bad debts for end of year , watch 2010 will be a new year Everyone just needs to support where , when and as much as you can with motorsports going forward
Wow! That's a downer. King Chassis and I had some great times at the old NMCA Street Car Shootout back in the Nineties. I hope somebody does step up to take it over.
Hope you're right, Big Dad. That track's been on my list for a while - what a great history! I want to run there some day - hopefully during Drag Week or Pump Gas Drags...
Well, I've sadly been dead nuts on since early 2007 of where we were headed .. Commerical loans are in trouble, I'm not sure whats going to happen , as you see strip malls with "for lease" signs on them , its a horrible sign but, that will end in time, the balance will come back -- Just keep going forward, can't worry about what has not happened or what is going to happen .. Be positive in every thing you do and say, it matters Take care everyone
I believe the real issue is the tracks are built on "rented" land. That's why the commercial loan people have said no to any of the groups who were interested in the recent past.
