I have checked this forum from time to time and always enjoyed it. City life has kept me relegated to apartment dwelling and BMW driving for quite a while now. About two years ago my wife and I bought a house outside of the city with a huge backyard and a big garage. My plan had been to nab an old Triumph or BSA and knock out a wicked little bobber sometime soon. But, today I spoke to my Dad, who was selling the VERY FIRST vehicle that I ever worked on and drove. He was selling my Uncle's '57 Ford F100, and a parts truck to boot. I always kicked myself for giving that truck back to my Uncle, I think that I ended up buying a '78 Fiat Spider instead... FAIL. But now, 17 years later, I have a second chance to own this kick ass truck! Runs, all panels are intact, interior is solid,, nice little 272... All I have to do is manage to get it from Alabama to Savannah. About seven hours or so. But it's been spoken for now, and I am looking forward to all of the inspiration that I am sure I will grab from this forum. Thanks for having me. ***Found out yesterday that we are pregnant. I remember taking rides with my Uncle in this truck when I was a tiny fella. Is this timing or what?
YOU ARE PREGNATED LOL post some pictures of the truck when you get it, if i ever get my project back on the road, i'll come visit sometime.
Hello Blockhead from a fellow Georgian. Congratulations on your soon to be new arrival ... I'm talkin' about the baby, of course. Congratulations on the truck, as well. Savannah ... one of the most beautiful & historic cities in the country!
Thanks! Yeah, we love Savannah! I can picture this truck barrelling down those cobblestone streets now... I have also been working on my pinstriping skills recently. Now I will have something to try my hand on... I see a ton of really slick 57-60's on here. Really anxious to get going. And honestly, I NEED a truck. A few weeks back I had to load an eight foot King Palm and a Crepe Myrtle into the trunk of the wife's PASSAT and drive the eight or so miles from Lowe's to the house. Awesome.
Glad you're going to let that '57 be a truck and not try to turn it into a show car! Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup (who sends friendly horn honks to your truck, as does Ozelle the '55 Ford) is a truck. She knows she's a truck, she gets used like a truck, and she has no delusions of being a show vehicle. Congratulations on the pregnancy! Henrietta and Ozelle send congratulatory horn honks.
Welcome to the board, from another Savannahian!! I have an old c-10 that I'm working on (moving slow though), You certainly can learn a lot from this board & get tons of inspiration !!! Good Luck
Welcome. Stay after that truck. Y-blocks are sweet ol' motors. Love your city, love it when business takes me there. I've spent a small fortune at E. Shaver Booksellers.
I found some pictures of myself sitting inside the engine bay of this truck from what must have been '92 or '93. I think that I was changing the fuel pump. Also some of my Mom and I in front of it in about '79 or so on Easter Sunday. It is nice to have a vehicle with some history. I can't wait to get her here... I have to sell a '68 BMW 1600 that is currently taking up the garage, though. And three Honda basketcase motorcycles as well. Busy Busy Busy... Thanks for the welcome.
Welcome, I work in Chucktown and home is in Alabama so I pass through your neck of the woods on my way home. Tim
Fairhope, huh? I grew up in Andalusia (about two hours south of Montgomery), and we moved here from Dothan a few years back.
Welcome, to the HAMB and to Savannah. Congratulations on the kid on the way, and congrats for not letting the truck get away. Most of us aren't that lucky. It's exactly the kind of story we wish we could tell about our cars, but can only say "it's just like the one we had, except for...."
Just spoke to my Uncle today, and he told me that he would hold the truck for me. I asked if he was still willing to take $1200 for it, and he laughed and told me that it was FREE! Awesome. He said that he started to begin a resto on it before getting sick a few years back, and has new floorpans, cab corners, rockers, step boards, a new radiator, gas tank and steering wheel. Comes with a parts truck that is 90% complete, which has a chrome grill, good glass, and an extra tailgate. It has a 292, not a 272. The parts truck has a non frozen 292 as well. Going to lay out some louvers on the extra hood when I get it. Original rusty red paint with a great patina... He said that he would rather give it to me than sell it to anyone else. Now, if I could just get it here...
