Ive been trying to get the stuff to build a welding table.
I went to this auction yesterday and found this:

It has this tag on it

If you cant make it out it says:
    Studebaker
    Commander
    Squaring and
    Head Sheet
    Assy Jig
    13M 2271
    F-29039
    1 T-2271X26
    2-25-46

It has a 36X42" top that is 3/4" thick
    Must weigh 400#
    Plus a neat vice
    all for $47.50

    I thought it was cool

Neet bench. That should work out well.:D

  3. That came from the Stude plant. What a neat table and the vise is killer. I do some work for two guys that don't have good usuable vises in their shops. Don't know how they get anything done.

Spot on great find. Nothing like used metal shop stuff, ya just cant break it. Enjoy.

  5. If you de-code the tag information, I am sure you will find that it says ..."This is your new welding table". Nice, and at a great price.

    Nice piece, with good history!

When Delphi closed/auctioned the A.C. spark plug plant in Flint, Mich. My shop was in on the auction. I saw many similar tables sold as weight and loaded into dumpsters going to scrap. What a waste! We saved several 3/4" top 5x10+ tables for frame and chassis work. Once they are set down with fork lifts they ain't moving!:D

    The guy was about 90.
He was very nice and talked to me for a long time.
He use to work for Studebaker and this was thrown out in the early 50's

And, should you happen to run into a guy with a '46 Study Commander that needs his head sheet squared, you can charge him the big bucks! Fozzie Bear has one.

  9. tHATS SOME FUNNY SHIT!

Great score! You will find that size is great as a general fab table.

    Thats neat.

Hey if I might be forward.... by the looks of the little tykes toy box, you have small kids. Cover the corners with some foam or Tennis Balls when your not using it . Those are unforgiving corners at head height on that Jig...ouchy:eek:

That has a Shaped top. Makes for a nice flat durable surface.
If your not sure what I mean by shaped give me a shout.

    Good luck and great find.

That's a great score, seems like everyone has some good finds while I get stuck having to buy or build my own for sometimes more then I desire to spend, ha ha. But it's all good. Enjoy

  21. could be for gas tank or radiator tank construction, squaring up the material?
