Ok guys a dumb question for you...I am new to welding....bought a Century mig 155gs and am playing around...learning as I go. I was going to get some gas for it and some folks are telling me to get argon CO2 mix and others are saying just use co2 since its cheap. Any thoughts?

use argon co2 becasue it works better, or plain co2 because it's cheap. Up to you.

You gets what you pay for. Argon/co2 welds much better, but acceptable welds can be done with co2.

i've found that straight co2 doesn't weld as nice as the mix on smaller stuff, like sheetmetal, but acts a little better on 1/4 inch and up.

Straight Co2 requires more heat and is not as consistant as Argon mix. Also produces a raised bead which sometimes has to be ground down. Other than that it gives a good strong weld. One last thing though, if it's really cold in the shop it will freeze the regulator and drive you nuts trying to find whats wrong. Don't ask how I know.....
