I went to the 2009 KKOA Leadsled Spectacular in Salina, it was an awesome show and I was wondering if anyone has seen any magazine coverage on the event? p.s. I'm new to the HAMB and I'm hooked!
The only mag I've seen, so far, with Salina coverage is Kustom Illustrated...good friend Doug Reed (49Toad) here on the HAMB covered it... I know Damon Lee shot it (possibly for Street Rodder), and Darrel Arment was there shooting as well, but have not seen any other coverage yet... R-
Hello Waddell 1, Welcome to the HAMB... I see you are from Woodward. I spend a lot of time around Woodward to Waynoka, with being the Coordinator for the Curtis Hill Rendezvous, each May and October... www.curtishill.com About the KKOA event, it seems to me, any magazine that was going to cover this event, would have published something by now..but there were many of us HAMBers photographing the KKOA event. Do a search on the 2009 KKOA event and you will find many others.. Here are my photos.. Photos are on PBase and with this link, will display all photos on a long page. Can click on any photo for a bigger size and a 1024x768 is available, if one selects original size below the photo. Slideshow works in upper right corner. http://www.pbase.com/nmsandrail/2009_kkoa_event__salina_ks&page=all Again, welcome to the HAMB.... Have a great day!....duane PS... You need to try to make it to the MoKan HAMB Drags in Joplin, next August.. Great event too!!!!!! There was a blue Ford truck running at the HAMB drags from Alva.
NOT necessarily true, Sandrail...even KKOA's OWN member mag, "The Trendsetter" hasn't published anything...and just last month they finally got around to pubilishing a few pix of the 2008 event... R-
I know it's not what you are asking for but there are lots threads on here if you search. You probably have already seen them. Here is mine: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=382972&showall=1
Hi there, Roger, Good to see you are still kicking up there... Enjoying the white stuff on the ground yet? The Trendsetter is an in-house captive audience with the KKOA membership, but I feel Streetrodder or a magazine like Hot Rod, or Rod and Custom might try to get any coverage out a bit earlier.. I know it takes some lead time to get an article published. It was a great event that I thought might have recieved some magazine coverage, but I didn't see any... Just my 2 cents... Take care, duane (NM Sandrail)
Awwwww Sandrail, you forget, it's wonderful ColoRODo...it was 45 degrees here yesterday...turned half to-three-quarters of that snow into water...the rest will be gone today as it's supposed to be 60 here...and the rest of the week... I am quite aware Trendsetter is an in-house "mag"...but when you only get one issue per year, it makes it very hard to cover your own event... Quite correct on the lead time...it's usually three months for most mags...SR and R & C included... It was a great event, and it keeps getting better every year they keep it in Salina...but unfortunately, mags like SR and R&C don't see the value in covering it much (where's RF...I'm sure he'd have something to say about that...!!!), can't sell parts to guys that frequent the junk yards more than the 1-800 lines... R-
Sometimes mags wait till a couple of months before the next years event to run it especially if they are not trying to beat alot of other mags to the newstand with a large event because this helps promoters with some hype for the show. Because if a guy looks at a magazine and says that show looks awesome and its only a month or two away he is more likely to remember that date than je would if it ran nine months prior
Thanks guys, we don't get many mags out in the boon docks unless you subscribe to them. I have seen the coverage on the hamb and it was really good. I know i seen several guys shoot alot of cars in our group and was just wondering if anything got published? Thanks for the help guys, keep me posted if you see anything els.
Welcome Aboard from a fellow Okie!! I was on Roy Boy's web site the other day to get a pick me up of Kool. Salina has to be one of the koolest Kustom shows in the country. http://www.royboyproductions.com/ Happy Trails, Mick
Welcome to the HAMB!!!! Here is my contribution to the Spectacular, we were only there a day and a half, but I got a lot of nice pics. http://s568.photobucket.com/albums/ss122/carriesmamasaid/Leadsled Spectacular 2009/ Carrie
Hey Okie, I mean Waddell, I didn't make it to Salina 2009 (my son had a 2 day p*** before being deployed to Iraq); however Steet Rodder coverage for Salina 2008 came out in the March 09 issue. FF
The new rod and custom plus rebel rodz has coverage! My coupe is in there! Hey Mr. Waddell don't i know you from some where!
Hot Rod mag (January, I think) had a nice three page article on Kustoms and the KKOA event, written by Pat Ganahl with lots of pics...the latest R & C (the one with Shawn Ornduff's Aerosedan on the cover) has a nice article in it by "Rusty Steele" R-
The current issue(Mar 2010) of Rod and Custom has a 5 page spread from last years show. My Kandy Red and White 64 Chevy wagon is in there. This years show will be the 30th year.
the Rod &Custom dated March 2010 which just was mailed has good coverage and the roofline of my car is behind the red wagon on bottom of page 38 took me a long time to see it, looks like magizenes have a long lead time to articles most of my left hand is numb and its hard to type then
And here is my thread and PBase gallery although I am not nearly through posting yet http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=613762&highlight=kkoa http://www.pbase.com/dlgphoto/kkoalss2011&page=all Both have the same pictures, but the PBase link may be more convenient to look at.
