I'm putting a 700R4 behind a small block V8. It's time to decide on a rear end ratio, rear tire size, and a shifter. I have an idea about what I want to do but I want to learn from your experience before I commit. If you have a 700R4 in your V8-power rod... 1. What is your rear end ratio? 2. How tall are your rear tires? 3. What shifter are you using? 4. What would you change or why would you keep it the same? Bob
i've built a couple cars with 700R4's , both of them had 3.70 rear gears with about 28" tall tires. both had gennie shifters and i think it worked out great..the owners were very happy. they both had mild sbc's and had plenty of zip around town , then could cruise at 70-75-80 with the overdrive
I run 29" tires and 3.70 gears, I tried everything else from 3.00 on up in the past few years...the 3.70 gears work best. I use a Lokar shifter with the 23" swan lever.
368 lincoln , wilcap adaptor, 700r4, rearend 4:10 posi, tire size 31 inches. i go about 80 in overdrive at about 2500 rpm works great for me ...
GM equips thier O.D. transmissions vehicles with a 3.42 ratio and approximately 235-75R15 radials. This works out to approximately 70 MPH @2,000 rpm. Frank
I'm running 235/70/15's witha 3.55 rear gear. Column shift from IDIDIT. Tire height is apx. 27 1/2. At around 70 mph I'm turning 2000 to 2100 rpm. Hope this helps. Like I told the kid, "Your music's not too loud, it's just like OKC, it ****s!"
3.70 225/70r15 Lokar Save yourself the headaches I went through and do two things. a) Find a reputable transmission builder and pay him what he is worth b) Have him install a hydraulic TCC lockup and eliminate the wires
My Model A sedan has 3.00 gears and runs a B&M pro-ratchet style shifter. These gears are too tall for anything but a car this light. My 47 pickup uses 3.50 gears (2300rpm 75mph w/265/60-15) and they are perfect for my usage, but the next one I am building will either have 3.73 or 4.11 gears. The 47 has a Lokar shifter and is the one that mounts on the floor pan and connects with an adjustable rod. I see tons of genies and lokars at swap meets, and my bet is that many folks buy the front or rear mount and it doesn't fit the application. By getting the floor pan mount, you have a large amount of flexibility in mounting location. Would I buy a Lokar again? Yes.
1. What is your rear end ratio? 3.50 posi 2. How tall are your rear tires? 28" 3. What shifter are you using? Lokar 4. What would you change or why would you keep it the same? I'm not in love with the Lokar
1. 4.10 2. 27 inch tall tire 3. hurst 1/4 stick with lock up 2200 rpm @ 75 mph wouldn t change a thing
1) 3.90 2)275/60/17 30" Diameter 3) B&M Ratchet-style shifter 4) Wouldn't change a thing Cruises at about 2300 rpm
I used to run a couple of OT cars of a faily spirited nature with a 2400 stall lockup converter, using '92 model 700r4 basics with all the usual mods, corvette servo, valvebody tricks, etc. They both had somethng like 27" tires and 3.43 gears. They ran through the 1/4 just getting ready to shift into 4th at the finish line. The lock-up should not come in except in 3 or 4 and never at WOT. Both used various B&M ratchet shifters. I miss both those cars.
Ran a Lokar on my 56 F-100. Never could get that damn thing to quit rattling. Sold the truck. Won't go there again. They could never give me a answer (Lokar). _____________________________________________________________________ Like I told the kid, "Your music's not too loud, its just like OKC, it ****s big time!"
