Hey guys I have a 9 inch rearend out of a 1967-1972 Ford F100 that I am needing some information on. I know nothing about these and was wondering what different spline axles came in these, if there are different bearing or housing sizes, differences in differentials, or anything else important I need to know. Also is there any way I can be sure that this rearend is actually out of one of these trucks (someone just told me it was). Any information would help, I am just not sure how many different ways these rear ends came. Thanks!
They came with bigger bearings and brakes than the cars and featured 28 spline axles; 31 spline were optional, as I recall. Look for the tag, should be on one of the back side diff. bolts - will also give you the ratio. I have one under my '36 coupe; very tough unit......
Hey I have a 71 ford F-100! I use this site for all my ?s http://www.fordification.com/ Try the Forum there. 1971fordcustom!
I had one for sale a while back: http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=285704 Synopsis of the measurements I had from in the ad: "When this was ***embled the wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface was about 61". Spring center to center is about 40" (flange to flange measures 56 3/8" -- I know it doesn't matter) The brake setup was 2 1/4" x 11". The axles are equal length (30" from wheel mounting surface to the end of the axle) 5 on 5.5" bolt circle." Basically all of the f100 9" rears have the same width and spring spacing from '57-'72. What makes the '68-'72 really is the brake setup. Mine had the 31 spline axles, it did not have the original center section though and I am not too sure what gears were available
1967 rear axles have the same 1 3/4" wide brakes and axles as 1966 and earlier F-100's and are I believe 1/2" narrower overall as well. 31 spline axles are very rare but are out there.
