hey i have a friend and she needs a good hood for a 50 pontiac, and i have one from a 50 chevy, the problem is she lives in cali, and i live in az, so we cant just try it. does anyone know if these are interchangeable, or if we will have to modify it to make it fit? thanks for the help guys. oh and sorry i posted in the wrong section before..oops adam
not interchangeable. ponchos are longer in the nose, but share the body shell. i think MAYBE oldsmobile might fit, just because i saw on here that they share the same frame. therefore, they could possible share fenders, and if they share fenders, the hood ought to work. it'd shange it, but it'd be custom.
check with a old junk yard they should have a interchange manuel..i know that for the trunk only olds would cross over on my 50 pontiac so i do believe it would be a no go for the hood as well...good luck
i've got a 51 hood here, actually. daddy-o gave it to me because no one else would take it, and as such i don't want any money for it. my hood on the 50 is good, so i can't use it. if she needs it, all she's gotta do is pay shipping and arrange that kinda freight thing, and it's hers. of course, shipping from ohio might be pricy as hell. but, you got a last resort.
If you had a hood from a Canadian pontiac it would bolt to the chevy,or vise versa as our pontiacs were built with chevy chassis and powertrains, but you are kinda far from the border
If I knew were a damn tape measure was, I'd measure my hood for you. But my kid likes to play with it and I think he ran off with it somewhere. Sorry, I looked. But for what it's worth, having parked next to a 50 Chevy, I believe my hood, fenders, the whole front end is longer.
just look at some pictures of the front fenders of the two cars. there's alot more metal between the rear of the wheel opening and the front door on a pontiac than a chevy. i'd say at least 6" difference between the two. remember, pontiacs had two more cylinders to contend with than chebbies.
