Not the finest example, but here is my Dad's that he threw together back in the early 1980s on a shoestring budget. Car started as a bare shell. This was his first attempt at building a hot rod, and it was all done at home in a 1-car garage. Prior to diving into this project, he hadn't really ever done anything to cars, other than change oil. I was 8 years old when he bought it, and just facinated with the car. We really got to learn together by doing.
For some reason, if they weren't raced, they were junked out. They are a nice looking body, so it makes you wonder why.
I let mine go to fund work/parts on my 34 ford coupe project but you're right....they're definetely a good lookin design.
Check out the Jalopyrama photo threads for one of the nicest 40 Chevy coupes on the east coast. A burgundy one.
hey POKEY...there mostly gone. but given the choice, i'd take the 39 coupe. 37-39 were great little cars, some of the best chevy's built. in my view. actualy i never saw a 40 coupe, untell you opened this thread. so thank you very mutch for that, and they don't look bad!...POP.
I just got my40 Chevy street rod and I think it's fantastic. I can't seem to post a pic.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11688&pictureid=124029
Mine's been under construction far too long... Nova front clip, 9 inch rear on coil shocks, powered by a GMC 292 6 banger/ Muncie four speed. Pic quality's not great, but shows the minimal top chop. Edit: WTF? A 113 kb jpeg won't upload?
Okay, this time the pic loaded. Agreed, they're beautiful cars, love the bulbous rear end, front end, slanted B pillars. Mine's chopped 1 1/2" at the rear (back window's full height), 2" at the windshield.
There is a 40 Chevy 2door sedan sitting in a wire company's parking lot on Federal Rd. in east Houston off I-10 that has been there for at least 2 decades I would say. Started out black, is now and has been for a long time rust red.
Theres one in a back yard by the VFW. I asked and theyre saving it for Jr. to rebuild. The kids10!!! I'll go back with some Bens in a couple of weeks, closer to Christmas. I'll bet Jr. would rather have x-box ****.
My 40 was rodded in the 70's. I found it in fair shape in 1996. Spent 3 winters working on it in my shop. I drive it every chance I get.
