Hi all, i am new to the forum and building my 1st rod here in Va Bch. I'm building a 1930 Model A Tudor with a 8.1 L GM FI motor. Alot of chalenges with that big puppy. Looking for Rodders in the area i can get to know cause when she is done i would like to ride with some locals here, plus input on this project is always a good thing. So please chime in.
And here is the project. Well i tried to attach a pic but it didn't work. Check my album. There is plenty of pics there.
Hey Odin! Checkin' in from Nawfuk next door to you. That's Norfolk for those that don't get the vernacular. Jenros' Coffee sho[p at the intersection of South Independence and Haygood has a cruise in every Saturday Night. Send me a PM and we'll talk some more. Tell me where you are in Va Beach. I know a lot of great people out there and an AWESOME fabricator there off of Birdneck Road!
Thanks! i flew into waynesboro a couple of times. was in charlette for a dead head concert a wile back.
Hi odins...Welcome.... I'll be in your neck of the woods(Newport News) next July/August. I'll look out for ya!
I'll just look out for two looooong black strips of rubber on the road! That's quite a ride your building!
Thanks! The drive train is a 2003, FI, throttle by wire, 496 GM motor (that my dad supplied and rebuilt to factory specs), a rebuilt 700R4 (local shop Alpha Transmitions), 8" ford rear end (that Flatlanders of norfolk rebuilt with 3.05 limited slip gears. The custom engine harness and computor reprograming will be done by Fuel Injection Specialties www.fuelinjection.com . I'm figuring that it won't get enough traction to hurt the rear end. i amagine the roads will be like ice when i'm on the gas.
It's good there are Va. guys that are into 'proper' cars. My buddy in Newport News gets off on 'wrong wheel drive' late model Daytonas! WTF Unfortunately he'll be in Iwreck when i'm there so I wont be able to 'educate' him in the error of his ways! I hope to see some decent rides when I'm over.....
I'm in Elizabeth City, Nc but I work at the Coast Guard base in Portsmouth. I've gotta get up with you guys! I'll be signing in on the VA board right away
Welcome to HAMB. I was going to ask if you are the guy I bought my fenders from, but looking at your album, its not the same car. It looks like you are about the same place in your build as I am with my 30 Tudor. Congratulations on getting that much motor to fit in such a small place! The work on the floor to clear the transmission looks great. It puts my install of those floors and the *****in firewall kit in perspective as a simple task. I see you had to put in new top wood like I did as well, fun wasn't it? I see you were more successful then I in getting headers to clear everything and work, I gave up and went back to manifolds and I have a smaller motor, so great job on that too. The top looks awesome, did you make that or get it already fit for a Tudor cutout? Looking forward to seeing your car around. I know most south siders don't venture across the James, but summertime the Harley dealership in Yorktown is the place to be on Saturday nights. I hope to have mine on the road when it gets warm again, I will be looking for yours. Dav
Thanks! i'm running a 5 speed auto and a 3.00 clutch posi behind it. with all the torque i have, i didnt think i should go low on the rear end. it should idle down the high way and light it up easy enough.
Thanks for the compliments! I hope to be rolling by xmas but my target date is spring. You need some pics in your album!! Lets see your build man! It is a hike from your end to mine and back for an afternoon visit but maybe we could swing something on a week end. I'd like to see what ideas and roughts your taking on your build, i pretty much done with my fab work. as a matter of fact... i got the frame painted and on tires now. Fixen to start the prep work on the body for paint. i want to be out of paint by turkey day. to bad i wont make this years turkey run in daytona. but maybe just maybe, i can use it to go xmas shopping for the grand babies!
