I have a 62 Buick Skylark with a 2 speed automatic behind the 215cid aluminum v8. The motor is stuck from setting for 35 years. I pulled the motor and transmission out as a unit and have been trying to seperate the two for a couple hours. The transmission will slide back a 1/4" but that is all. I have not pulled an automatic since I was young and I must be missing something. The torque converter is bolted to the flywheel and because the engine is stuck I can not rotate the flywheel but if I remember right the torque converter is separate from the imput shaft of the tranny. I thought it would slide off leaving the torque converter still attached to the flywheel. Am I missing something?
that transmission should be a turohydromatic 300. It's not a Power Glide. As far as I know it should just slide off the converter drive hub.

I had the same thing happen to me taking a Dynaflow off of a Nailhead. I had to take the heads and oil pan off, then pull the rod caps and drive the stuck pistons out so I could turn the crank and get to the bolts. Not fun!
how about I scan a sectional view of the funky 61-63 only dual path trans used in the little Buicks? it'll blow your mind.
