i have two Studebakers, a 55 and a 49(dont quote me on the year, any help?). the first one closer to finished. i have sourced a 500 Caddy but i need to know what ******s i can run with it. i would love to have a 3 or 4 spd but i was told there is no way to run anything but an automatic, is this true? i know nothing about Cad's so any advice would help... its still a long way to being finished until i get my Studebaker running i needed a truck to haul my stuff around and be a rolling adverti*****t for me. well i got one, not exactly what i wanted but kool none the less. its a 91 s10 (i know waaaaaaay too new), 383-700r4 set up street/strip. i want to old school it out, i was thinkin about a pseudo 32 ford dash, an old horn ring wheel and some other like items. wont be posting pics of that here dont worry!
my friend has something very similar. 54 studebaker pickup with a 500ci caddy. Idk what ****** he has (ill have to ask him) but I am pritty sure you can put a stick behind it. He is now putting it on an s-10 frame. as for your other truck, its somewhere between 49 and 53. p.s. damn you have straight body panels! can I have a fender or four?
the pics are deceiving! the 55 is beat up pretty bad, the bed is fubar on the p*** side like a pole/tree fell on it. the good parts off of the older one are going on the 55, the bed, drivers door, drivers front fender... i havent found the vin on the old one yet, cant say ive looked very hard. after seeing that Studebaker Toter last night on here, i decided ill make one of those out of the old one just make it short wheelbase only, skrew with peoples heads. long term of course.
Cad. Company has what you need to put a stick behind the torque monster 500. About 500.00 for the flywheel, a stout 11or12 inch clutch setup, front mounts from the trans to the frame for more strength, 1 very strong trans and rearend. The taller the rear gear the better and it'll still blister the tires. You will also have to drill the crank for the pilot bearing or bushing.
ill have to research that thanks! what auto's will fit, i know 70-83 or thereabout Cad's but are there others that have the same bolt up. one of the Cad part company's had an adapter to fit gm auto's for like $150 or so. i may end up doin that for now and let the stick be a long term project.
i just bought this beast... 1963 Mercury Monterrey moredoor... the 390 runs good... or at least i think its a 390 could it be a 406? i ***ume its the same block, but you know what happens when you ***ume! (you open your mouth and look like an idiot) factory air works as well as damn near everything else. side windows is all that wont function as it should, very little rust and drives great! im so happy
would you consider me even more lucky if i told the price i paid? $1500... the odometer reads 12000 but i ***ume it rolled over once there i go ***uming again! just got the front end aligned and now she drives as if on rails... p***ed EVERYTHING on the road but a gas station! skrew hybrids, gas saving environmentalist communists... lol (i have nothing against hybrids if they looked kool, they dont) damn the AM radio! it works flawlessly but there's no decent stations in Waco unless i want to listen to Rush Limbaugh...
